Andy & Sue's MK2.5

Here is our pride and joy.

Wow, that’s a shiny engine bay!

Not too sure about the chrome caps to be honest, but the rest of it is amazing.

Nice looking car - keep up the hard work!

 Clapping Hands
Very Nice

Thanks.

The chrome caps I hand made from billet alloy on a lathe and hand polished them to a mirror finish.

If you see the Decembers issue of STHT there is a 2 page feature on my car.

Andy

Now that is a car to be proud of… fantastic, clean shiny and bright. Nice one[H]

thats one shiny motor  Andy,  only one bit missin,  get down to woolys and get the old butter dish fuse cover before its to late mate  [;)]

 Good article Andy

looking forward to seeing what else you can do to it [H]

Kev

Any advice on getting (and keeping) the paintwork in the engine bay up to that standard would be gratefully recieved[Y]

p.s - I’ve read Pollyanna’s post in the Tech forums, but I’d just like to get the paintwork looking good without removing anything, if possible.

Cheers Kev,

I have some plans in mind for next year. Watch this space!!!

Have you fitted that dipstick handle I made for you yet ?

Andy

Plenty of determination, lots of enthusiasm, some car polish and a bucket full of elbow grease will do the trick.

Jokes aside, concentrate on one small area and when you are happy with it move on to another small area.

It is easier to remove some parts as it is impossible to get into all areas without. But it is possible to get a good finish on the bits you can get to.

Try not to look at the whole engine bay as one job but as many small jobs, tackle one job at a time and finish it.

It will take up plenty of your time but I think it is worth it.

I wipe mine down with a leather once a week after the car has been washed.

I tend do more detailed polishing when entering car shows to give it the extra sparkle.

Andy

Thanks for that - as I don’t have room for the car in the garage, I reckon the ‘big clean in small stages’ task will have to wait for better weather - not realy possible to do it under an umbrella![:)]

No problem happy to help.

Maybe you should make room in the garage and make a start, no time like the present.

There is always room in my garage for our MX-5, but not for me as Sue is always in there polishing the MX-5

very nice, lot of effort gone into getting it to that shiny point
