Angel edition 2003 1.8 silver restoration?

Great to be here (should have done this years ago)

Just joined the club and need help with my angel (see above)!
Had my Angel for coming on 4 years and was going to restore it later this year but due to a recent accident I feel now, is the time!
Can anybody point me in the direction of (hahaha! sorry but that sounds like Twoflower,Terry Pratchett) a restorer in my area,?
The mx5 mag (the 2 that I have) does show some they but are midlands or south west, and as well as locality I prefer a word of mouth approach.

Went on the main forum site last night (for the 1st time) and was surprised by the response I got that long mx5-ers hadn’t heard of it but had checked it out and found it “Looking good”!
And hence the question.

Any replies will be much appreciated! Thanks guys!

3 places spring to mind immediately. Dandy cars on the A12 just west of Gants Hill. They appear to have changed ownership recently and may not have the expertise they did have, but that’s an unknown at the moment. I’ve used them since owning my 5 and they’ve provided excellent service. The other is Everything MX5, they are located just off the A12 near Romford. A small concern that has been recommended to me, but I haven’t used yet.

interiors and hoods can be catered for by The Car Trimming Co. Also in Romford. They did my hood, but can do pretty much anything trim wise.

Thanks T,
Have seen dandy in the mag and that was one of my options, also everything mx5 (if I have them right are a family business). The Car trimming co. is new to me,
Will replace hood but the main thing is the body!
Do any of these do a respray/restoration annnddd due to recent accident, body replacement?
Big thanks again!
P.S. Love your pic, reminds me of my g/son when he was young! lol

Dandy cars definitely do body work. Everything MX5? Not sure, but probably. Good luck with the repairs.

Hi Tel.  Welcome.

You don’t actually say where you are located.

Come along to Tech Day on 12th April.

Plenty of help and advice there.  See here

Hello Eric and thks for the welcome…
I (for my sins) Live in the Dagenham area and over the last few years have had my car targeted
(sharp instrument through the roof, smiley drawn along the front)which is why it was with some trepidation that
I have decided to get the car restored… But,and it is quite a large one,I am not what you would call a ‘mechanic’
and many, many years ago after my own car DIY efforts once again went wrong and again blood was spilt,I gave up!
I do have a family member who is a professional mechanic and works for, well put Dagenham and car together and
you have the answer. So I gave over the now red slippery reins to him.Even does my MOT!
As far as the Tech day goes I don’t know what condition the Angel will be in by then but thanks for the idea!

Just bring yourself along.  Doesn’t matter if you can’t bring the 5.

jeez it’s cold out there. My family mechanic just showed up to see why, after putting in a new abs sensor in the front left, the indicator doesn’t work but the side light has generously taken over the job of flashing instead… This is the area that got damaged in the accident meaning new front section, wing, headlight etc!
Will just check out Dandy cars and put it in for a full repair and complete body make over… costly I am expecting, as much as the car cost me? Most likely!
Ho hum…
As this is my only car I’m afraid the Tech day is a no go for this year!
P.s. do ‘you’ know of anybody else that’s active within the club that has an angel?
http://www.mx5-mazda.co.uk/angels.htm
This is one of the web sites I found before I bought it…as you see from this 211 of the one I have came of the line
and I have only seen one other of them.
Hence my eagerness to get Her back up to scratch!

As Eric stated, if you can get along to the Tech Day you will meet a bunch of fellow enthusiasts who can point you in the right direction to get your car sorted out.

There are a couple of North Thames members who specialise in servicing and repairs for a living. They sort out many MX5 related problems and bodywork. They will be at the Tech Day if you can get along.

Otherwise if you PM me your details i will pass them on for you.

Regards

Chris

Tel, for bodywork - I can recommend CL panelcraft at Braintree. They did my brothers sill repairs - due to rust - and made a very good job . They work on all manner of classics . May be a little more but the quality is high from what I’ve seen.  His car is 2001 model similar to yours…

thanks john, will keep that in mind and look up their web site.Haven’t been able to get onto dandycars web as it appears to be down!

Here’s a link to the story and photos of the repair CLPanelcraft did on Dave Hillier’s car.

Excellent work and still looking good after 4 years

Thanks Eric, read the comments and saw the pictures.
I think this is swaying me in CL’s direction.Have a bad rust problem with drivers sill myself as roof drainage pipe was clogged but didn’t know till drivers side flooded after heavy rain (blew it clear with nitrogen).Along with wheel arches and everyday chips etc you can see why I need the whole body done.
With accident repairs me thinks this is going to go over what I paid for the car £3800 but occasionally looking for an angels replacement I’m finding they are just not very common,to say the least.
Thanks again for the help!
P.S. Just to push your kind hospitality a tad further,do you think it worth leaving other parts like new hood and refurbished alloys up to them or perhaps do them separately?

A number of members (Including Dave Hillier - Zimmerframe) have had their hoods replaced by Car Trimming Co/Mazda Hood Shop in Brentwood Road, Romford.

Excellent job.  They make them themselves and supply most of the other hood fitters.

Brian Wilks is a Club member. http://www.mazdahoodshop.co.uk/

Some quotes from the Forum…

I’ve fitted a vinyl and mohair hood this year, the latter was supplied by The Car Trimming Company: http://www.mazdahoodshop.co.uk/ who manufacture and supply hoods to many other resellers. The fitting instructions are extremely comprehensive and the owner, Brian, is an absolute diamond. Although the mohair was a little more difficult to fit than the vinyl the finish is brilliant.

Incidentally I also had both seats recovered by The Car Trimming Company, the quality of the finish is excellent and the price was extremely competitive.

I had my mohair hood fitted by them just over 3 years ago now.  Still as good now as it was when fitted.  I went back last year to have my seats re-trimmed and padded too.  Great service.

Wheel refurb can be tricky if not done properly.  I had mine done once and they only lasted a year.

I’ve had them powder coated this time by Maldon Shotblasting & Powdercoating. They did a good job at a reasonable price and I’m very happy with them.  I’m sure others on here can recommend places too.    http://ctc-powder-coating.co.uk/
