Hi everyone, just had a roof change under warranty as well as new hoops and spacers fitted. However soon as i drove out of the dealers i noticed a noise behind headrests at certain revs - like a tinny rattle. Anyone had this problem? not sure whether to take back to dealer, but feel a bit OCD
Last time I experienced a rattle in the back of a car was after a rear wheel bearing was replaced on my old Astra. Careful inspection revealed two very nice Snap-on sockets rattling around in the boot. I took them back to the garage and made a ‘friend for life’ in the mechanic who had lost them. He did the services on our cars for the next decade or so until that excellent dealership sadly folded.

Please may I ask why you had the roof changed? I have had a rattle which is to be addressed on first service due April 2019. I noted that my roof when stowed is a little misaligned and drives side rubbing the said hoop! The rattle likely to be from the stowed catch not housing the hood properly?
Thank you in advance.
I had a rattle like this on my ND. I traced it to the plastic cover over the rear crossmember behind the seats. The plastic fasteners for this are very flimsy and easily disengage. I managed to get the fasteners back in but the cover could still rattle up and down. The remedy was to stuff foam up between the plastic cover and the metal crossmember that it covers. Unfortunately I do not have an ND at the moment but I am sure I have covered this before in another thread.
Hope this helps.
Must remember to read the question properly!!!
Yes, but Touche had the hood replaced and they would have had to remove this panel to replace it. As I said the fasteners are pretty flimsy and the cover is not very firmly attached. It was just a possibility that this is causing the rattle on Touche’s car as it did on mine. The cover I mean is not the large cover immediately behind the rear seats but a cover which is goes across the car behind the headrest.
Might had read it wrong but I thought Touche was just quoting previous text, in which case it is possible that Touche has a known warranty issue which I would have thought would have been rectified at the factory on later cars.
Mazda service repair guide R021/16D issued on 29/2/16 relates to the soft top catching the seat back, so the whole assembly needs stripping down, packing with washers and re-assembling to ensure there is a gap between the folded hood and the seat back. The new gap is still very small but enough to stop the hood wearing through over time and resulting in costly replacement. Do discuss with your dealer.
During the repair, when removing the metal fasteners of the black trim from the square holes of the seat back crossmembers, the holes may be damaged causing noise due to loose fit of the fasteners. The dealer will then need to use Noise Repair Kit (TA01-76-100) or 0.25mm fabric sheet to effect a repair as detailed in the above service repair guide.
This is only a general overview, but the simple answer is to get it sorted before the warranty expires.
Thank you M and M for the detail. To clear up I quoted OP and added my comment!
My car is an April 2018 and having its first service and they will be addressing the hood issue.
Thanks again.

The Dealership had mine for 5 days when they fixed my roof but the material had also worn through and it was the first one they had done, hopefully they have got more efficient and practiced! To be fair there was no rattle afterwards.
