I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: what these are?
Hi, I have had a local garage look over my recent purchase. One of the things they have identified is the the Anti Roll Bar Link ‘locking tab’ is missing on the near side. Before I go back to them, can anyone advise what this is?
I have been under the car and inspected the roll bar and everything is the same on both sides. I though it maybe some sort of split pin but I can’t find anything. Based on my previous experience and what I can find through our friend google everything is there that should be.
Help appreciated even if it is to confirm there is no such thing.
Strange then that the original nuts on my NC were serrated flanged nuts. I know because I had to drill two of them out as the hex in the end of the drop links were rusted out. Certainly the replacements from Blueprint came with nylon nuts.
They don’t mean that one of the tabs which attach the end link to the suspension arm is missing? If the links have been replaced it’s possible that one of these tabs has been damaged and removed. In which case a new part will need to be fabricated and welded on. Pic would be useful.
Those pics look normal. They correspond to the drawings in the service sheets as well - no locking tabs shown or mentioned for the drop links.
The nuts on my NC drop links (front and rear) had a smooth flange and traces of blue thread-lock.
So I added some to the threads on the new links I fitted, mainly to discourage rust and also because I needed to re-use the old nuts for the genuine L&R handed front set.
They don’t mean the other side of the drop l ink is missing the plastic cap with 4 dimples on do they. I thought if this cap is missing the drop link is on its way out.
Only guessing but have a check.
Agree with the other comments, this is exactly how they come from the factory, less the dirt and corrosion of course. I would find another garage. If you want to be helpful and give them half a chance spray all the fixings with releasing fluid (please not wd40) for a few days before you take it in.
I did wonder that but I have checked them as well. All present and correct. Very disappointed. I did query it with them at the time, but I will give them a call when I get a chance to check if they mean something completes different.
personally i think their trying to rip you off BUT i could be wrong.
however i think it is worth pointing out that,
when ever you take your mx5 into a garage ALWAYS mention that you are a mx5OC member and that your going to take b4 and after pictures of the work and post it on the ownersclub forums!
telling them this, should discourage any shady behavior!
unless of course they are so really REALLY stupid that they dont understand the implications and resulting damage to their own reputaion and bussiness that being outed as a rip off merchant on one of the UK’s biggest car clubs would mean.

Sorry it’s a bit OTT, are you serious and do you always do this?
I know one specialist that I use, don’t know his personal thoughts on the above but I think I’d be a little taken back and probably ask you to go elsewhere.
Thats too different things. Telling a garage you have been recommended by xyz is not a bad thing for business or recognition.
Re pictures i appreciate you may be keen and take pictures for yourself before and after work is done for your own records - i don’t. But if a garage do that for me it be appreciated especially when its body work or undersealing etc.
If you ask them to do it it really depends how you are going to phrase it, but i kinda agree the delivery is key. Some garages are too busy or could see it the wrong way. I wouldn’t be surprised if some would tell you to take your business elsewhere
