Any brighter bulb recommendations for halogen H7 bulbs - NC1

  1. My model of MX-5 is: 07 Icon
  2. I’m based near: LDN
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Brighter bulbs

If you know then the NC1 bulbs are very dim, i’m looking at more effective options. I heard good opinions about the OSRAM Nightbreakers and Phillips

X Treme Vision.

Does 150% vs 220% impact their life? And which one would be more beneficial? Any other recommendations are welcome, 150% nightbreakers are about 22£ vs 30£ for 220% ones but i heard they don’t last long? And what does HID mean as i see a lot of talk about HID lights or conversions on NC2 and 3s, thank you

Didnt mean for the picture to upload halfway through lol

Night Breakers last ages as long as you don’t touch the glass putting them in. They are a big improvement on standard bulbs.
Just be aware that 220% of nothing is still nothing. Meaning that if the lights are very dim now they’re still going to be a bit dim even with uprated bulbs.

Got these in mine for the past 5 years.

Before changing bulbs - have you had the headlights checked on an MOT beam tester to see if the beam is as high as allowed ?

With any bulb, there is an inverse relationship between brightness and longevity.

Basically, the higher the output of the bulb, the shorter the lifetime.

So i’m better of getting LEDs? And swapping back before an MOT?

Are they a lot brighter than stock?

Never heard of such thing

My mate uses these as he does fast food deliveries in the nights. Buy a couple of sets at that price.

In my opinion yes and “Whiter”, hence the name.

As stated brighter bulbs don’t last as long as normal ones. But hey ho.

Don’t be tempted to try the LED route as experimented and absolutely rubbish.

What state are the lenses in? Worth a polish if they are looking a bit sun damaged over the years. Maybe get the meter out and check the bulbs are seeing good voltage.

The beam should be checked every year during the MOT.
BUT - they only seem to comment or fail if the beam is too high.
Many cars are driving around with the headlights pointing too low so you think they are bad.
Most MOT stations will bring the beam up as high as possible if you ask them too.

Thanks, i’ll probably go for the ones you got

NightBreakers are a good option as are cleaned front lenses. NC headlight design is probably the worst kind possible. Pants !!
