Any Known Good Mechanics Around Nottingham, UK, To Fix Engine Oil Leak

Hi There, I am looking for assistance on finding a good mechanic for a MX-5 Mk2 1998 1.8L. The things that need addressing mainly are the points in the engine that are leaking. I have identified these as being the CAS, valve cover gasket, front crank valve & case cover and it looks to be the sump as well unfortunately. It could be less but there’s so much oil and havn’t had the time to clean engine and see completely, fresh oil does look to be in those places.

Because I am under time pressure and the sump generally requires lifting the engine, I am not able to do this myself. The other stuff I could do but it would be more sensible to get it all done as I will not have the tools or the time to do this since I am studying for University.

The engine is not spewing oil - just leaking a bit all around, I can and have been driving it around just keeping an eye on the oil level and topping up if necessary, but I have the chance to address it now. For this reason I would really appreciate some help if anyone knows any good mechanics that would be able to do this?

I will be driving the MX-5 up from Leatherhead, Surrey, to Lenton, Nottingham, in about a week or so. Alternatively if there are no known places in Nottingham a local one to Surrey would also be appreciated (I can leave car with brother).

Side note: I plan to also replace the rear hoses to as they should be done with the leaking CAS and replace all fluids since I just purchased the car. Other than that the car is all fine, couple rust spots to fix by next MOT (January).

Any general advice regarding this topic is also greatly appreciated.

South of Nottingham is Thrussington Garage they know MX5’s. A quick Internet search will find them. Might be a bit far away for you.

I’m based in Chesterfield and there’s a garage I’d recommend to anyone nearby called “BJ Automotive”.

It’s in Sutton in Ashfield, and run buy a couple of lads called Brandon and Jack, hence the name. Top guys. Not an MX5 specialist but I can personally vouch for their work.

Last time I was in they had a BMW X5 in for a full engine and gearbox rebuild, so I can’t imagine their afraid to get their hands dirty. Decent prices as well.

Also, in terms of rust spots that you want to get done before January, I used Deepcar Auto bodies and they did some really good work on mine (can send pics if interested). I think MX5 Restorations in Ilkeston have a decent reputation as well.
