Any servicing recommended for window regulators to prevent issues?

Having just paid £150 for a new windows regulator to be fitted after the cable in the door exploded, I was wondering if anyone can recommend any servicing I can do on the other door to prevent it happening on the other side. Seems like Im not the only one this has happened to and maybe a fairly common problem. Thanks

WD40 the electrical parts. Light oil or grease on the cable.
