Any thoughts about Swissvax Products

Thinking about giving my car a REAL good clean and polish this spring and thinking of using these products to firstly remove the old wax and dirt grime/fly/bird droppings and tree sap (not that I’ve noticed any on the body work) and then the wax to give the car a shine and protection.  Has anyone used these and if so any comments.  As you’d expect they’re not the cheapest on the market! And YES I will give the car a though wash before I start with the above.

Very good products but massively overpriced.

Agreed

Good products BUT stupid prices and very high bragging rights, largely unjustified

What would your process be from start to finish, i do part time Detailing with a well known detailer in my area, and dependant on how far you want to go…i can recommend a process and products

Thanks

Hi Johnson and thanks for the offer.

As I’ve just acquired the car (Boxster on a 12 plate with 13,000miles) I really don’t know it’s history and so I thought I’d do the following although the car appears clean and polished:

  1. Lightly jet wash the car (not hood) to get rid of any obvious dirt and grime.
  2. Wash the car with baby shampoo and dry with mircofibre cloths.
  3. Apply Swissvax Cleaner Fluid to get rid of any remaining old wax and contaminants.
  4. Apply Swissvax Zuffenhausen Wax as recommended by them for all Porsche's to shine and protect the paint.
I'd love to hear your input.

First off I would recommend a prewash, either in the form of a snowfoam or a product like Bolt Hamber Autofoam allowing to dwell for 5 minutes before rinsing well.

As for the choice of shampoo I would avoid using anything designed for your body as they contain salts which can dry out paint as paint is porus, for a wax stripping shampoo the best product to use is CarPro Reset and then rinse

To further remove a wax I would then use a product like CarPro Eraser or Envy Filler Killer to remove all oils from the surface.

To enhance gloss use a glaze depending on your budget Autoglym SRP is a very common glaze and is effective if used correctly,

Then top with your swissvax apply a thin coat and buff off when ready allow an hour for the wax to gas then apply another thin layer and buff when ready,

Judging from what you have available this would be the process I would use but I can highly recommended the CarPro products mentioned…

Any questions just ask

Hi Graham

As already said, some prewash or snow foam prior to shampooing will help to reduce the chance of any grit getting wiped accross the paintwork

I would then polish the car with  adedicated polish such as Gtechniq P1 by hand, if you dont have a machine polisher

Then use the SWISSVAX CLEANSER OR CARPRO Eraser OR Gyeon Prep to remove all polishing oils

I cannot recommend AGSRP as this will fill any swirls with fillers add a slight sealant layer…Swissvax wax will last longer on a Cleanser base rather than Sealant…but if youtre prepared tp wax regularly, then it wont matter much

Good luck

Many thanks for all your replies.  I guess I’ve learnt to use a snow foam before washing and NOT to use baby shampoo  as well as other wise words on cleaning!

All I need now is a reasonably dry day to start the job - can anybody help with that.

Have a read of this too Graham:

Thanks for the link, one final(?) question: will it matter if the snow foam partially touches the hood?

Not in the slightest

Hi Graham,

did you find time this weekend or was the weather not up to scratch ?

I’m afraid wo things stopped me, firstly the weather (not good at all) and the real reason was that after all your opinions I’ve been busy ordering “stuff” on the web.  Firstly a foam lance/dispenser and secondly some Bilt Hamber Auto Foam in a 5L container.  I’m still trying to pluck up the courage to oder the Swissvax starter kit priced at £108 containing :

Contents

  • Premixed, ready-to-use glass cleaner in a handy spray bottle
  • Cleans effortlessly and effectively with no streaking leaving nothing but a crystal clear glass surface
  • Provides excellent cleaning results with ease in minimum time
I'm figuring I'll try the foam first to give me confidence and then take the plunge later this week.

Watch this space and thanks for the interest.

Did you read this Graham?

Graham if I were you I would not purchase the kit as there is better items available that are cheaper as they do not carry the swissvax label.

Thanks

Thanks to both of you and yes, I was being lazy and buying the kit.  I have now been “un-lazy” and reviewed the items I need and ordered them from various suppliers across the web, Shampoo, Carpro erasure, towels etc.  Thanks for the nudge!

Just catching up on this thread - i’ve been away with work for a couple of weeks.

Reading updates with keen interest Graham.

I have started my SV collection with Onyx; and absolutely no regrets with my purchase!

Onyx is a nice wax, my favourite wax from the range has to be Shield 2 coats of shield should see you through 4 months if applied correctly, however i favour a sealant as apposed to a wax

I would then polish the car with  adedicated polish such as Gtechniq P1 by hand, if you dont have a machine polisher

ChrisR

I think of polish as a was polish that seals in the shine.

The polish you advise above what is it?

Possibly a slight abrassive to cut away road grime and oxidsided paint.

Interested in you reply.
