Anyone fitted ILM Cat Manifold?

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __2009 NC
  2. I’m based near: __ West Sussex
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __ Exhaust Manifolds

Hi, first post and apologies but I haven’t seen this question answered.

I’m looking at swapping out the stock manifold on my new to me NC and would like to stay as legal as possible whilst gaining a bit of power.

Does anyone have experience with the IL Motorsport catted manifold?

I see various posts noting that the cats don’t last long but none seem anecdotal.

I would love to hear from anyone with any experience of these, particularly differences with the non cat version and longevity.

Thanks,

Tom

Hi I have the non cat version , along with the ilm back box, so the standard mid pipe & cat remain. Emissions have not been a problem so far! 2015 NC3 2.0 sport tech

To get get the full benefits from any manifold transplant catted or non, a remap is strongly recommended. So bear the cost in mind when planning.

In terms of longevity, I haven’t had mine all that long but this is my observation. The ilm stuff is extremely well put together from very decent s steel. I was lucky enough to be able to view 3 well known & respected brands side by side & the ilm won hands down on quality of materials & proper welding technique, IE back purging etc.

To live with, the catless mani + free flowing exhaust sounds deep & throaty when pushing on occasional pops & bangs add to the joy but it is sometimes a little bit loud ( for my taste) when cruising etc, mine is a daily driver.

Whichever you choose I don’t think you need worry over longevity, it’s German made with TUV approval & will probably out live me!

.

I agree with all you say.

I swapped out the resonator box for the same size silencer and it’s just about right now.

Mine passes the MOT every year too.

Been on since 2019.

As long as people get it re mapped properly……..

How much did it cost to have it installed and remapped? Does it drone at motorway speeds?

Allow somewhere in the £3-400 range for a good tuner to do this. Though I hear some good things about the online tuning packages as well.

Doesn’t drone on mway speeds but will sometimes resonate when engine braking at speed. I will be fitting some sound deadening in the boot, parcel shelf etc in time.

I’m interested to hear of any experiences with removing or modifying the resonator ( apologies to OP for hijacking thread).
