I have a 1991 Eunos Roadster auto with a cracked rear plastic screen. I have bought the replacement complete zip in section for it and thought any garage would fit it for me but most have said no and a couple of others want over £100 to do it.
Does anyone know anyone that can fit it for me? I am in Great Yarmouth and willing to pay about £50
If you’re a bit handy with tools you could come along to the Eastern Region Tech day in October and fit it yourself? There will be someone there to give you some pointers.
It’s about half to three quarters of the way to fitting a complete new hood but not impossible to DIY depending on your level of expertise.
The plastic clips securing the rear deck carpet need to be prised out
Then unbolt the ring of 10mm bolts on the 3 pieces of metal that hold the rain rail in place
Remove the plastic clips (1 at each side at the outside edge of the rain rail at about the seat belt mounting point)
Very very carefully bend and remove the rain rail from it's natural position
If the hood is original then the rain rail will be attached to it via tiny rivets. These need to be drilled out but you'll need to work out how the heck you do this when the roof is still attached to the car!
As well as the zip, the rear section of hood is attached to the main roof section by 'fat head' rivets at the bottom corners which again need to be drilled out.
The zip restraining staples need to be carefully removed at each end and then the zip can be complely undone/removed (there may be some stitches holding it too?!)
The rear section should now come free????
Now you pray that the zip on your replacement rear screen exactly matches that of your hood! If you have an original to original match then you may be ok but even Mazda used different hood suppliers!Anything other than that and you will probably have to unpick your old half-zip and sow it in to your replacement rear panel as a swap!
Re-attach in reverse and I suggest that instead of re-riverting the rear section all across the rain rail, you attach some waterproof gaffer tape along the entire outside edge of the rain rail before refitting. And around the bodywork protruding bolts that go through the rain rail, you need some sponge pads - both of these measures designed to stop water coming into the cabin!
Easy eh?!
I have done one once, but that was for myself and I wouldn’t recommend it really as it just seemed very time consuming to still end up with a secondhand hood at very little saving to a nice new one! Just my opinion though!
