Anyone know MT63OJS - NC3.75 Graphite Edition - Few Questions

Evening all,

Started to semi look for a NC3.75 and this example looks nice, love the colour combo - Used Mazda MX-5 2.0 I ROADSTER SPORT GRAPHITE EDITION 2d 158 BHP for sale - PistonHeads UK

Seller has been very slow in responding (prior to Xmas hols) to my queries and seem reluctant to sell photos of the underside. It’s been for sale since the end of July which raises alarm bells, although perhaps down to the price. The fact is comes with Crossclimate tyres suggests it’s not been a garage queen. That’s ok though as it will be a fun winter car for me, but would like the reassurance the underside has been protected. It’s a 700 mile round trip, so wouldn’t want to be disappointed.

Anyone know how many Graphite editions there are in silver? Same question for the Recaro edition as that’s the other option in silver (currently 2 for sale).

Also, is the std Bose system any good? Or better looking for a car with the more modern headunits? (Did I read Tom Tom???) I like the simplicity of the Bose headunit, but also like my tunes when driving.

Thanks in advance.

For the price difference I’d go for that 17k miles Recaro from Prestige Vehicles.
Of course you need to check the undersides for the dreaded rust, even from Prestige, they make them look shiny up top. I’m just looking at the rusty rear brake discs for instance, I know they can be changed, just thinking how the other bits look you can’t see.
Personal experience with a Recaro NC, sold mine earlier this year, private sale for less than £12k. Not many around but I’ve seen 3 or 4 up for sale in the last couple of months after I sold mine, less around than the Graphites for sure. The Recaro seats are very nice I must add, the reason I purchased mine.

Just to add the standard head units aren’t brilliant in any NC, whether Bose or navigation as standard. Much better as I and many others to install aftermarket units with android auto or carplay you then get the better options for playing your tunes and navigation.

MT63OJS has a pretty clean MOT history.
2021 - advisories for cracks in tyres

2023 - Failed for rear ARB droplink dust covers

Thanks, yeah I’ve also had that Recaro car saved on my Autotrader watch list for a few weeks, but not enquired yet. Do you know it? Personally I prefer the non gloss black roof, mirrors and wheels on the Graphite edition, but you’re right, those Recaro’s look and I suspect feel great. It’s been for sale for a 3 months too. Just paranoid why they aren’t selling and keep thinking corrosion corrosion. Might enquire in the New Year. There’s another one for sale, but double the miles, it’s been sale for 6 months. Guess you can get a ND recaro for the same price (not for me though).

How was yours underneath? Was it white with red stripe by any chance?

Never seen a ball joint cover advisory before. Is this a common issue with the MX5?

As for the tyres, those Cross climates look new, so suspect they were changed after the advisory.

Yes mine was white with the stripe, pretty much rust free underneath, I kept in it good nick, first viewing it sold.
Talking drop links, mine had an advisory for play on both rear drop links on the last MOT, can be a common thing to look for, easily sorted which I did before sale.

I do like the Graphite model myself but feel dealers are asking too much for what basically is a Sport Tech, just
some different colour combos.
Same as the Recaro really, basically a Sport Tech with added goodies, seats mainly the main attraction.

Do go look at any prospective purchase, it’s the only way, yes a pain if it’s the other end of the country.

Toys are generally hanging around a long time at the moment so i wouldnt look into that too much, the market isnt great for selling older cars.

“I do like the Graphite model myself but feel dealers are asking too much for what basically is a Sport Tech”

I agree, only differences I can spot are the darker headlights, graphite colour mirrors & roof and gloss black dash trim oh and rollover covers. Don’t think there’s anything else over a regular sport tech?

Will enquire about the Recaro edition car in the new year.

I do think thats one if not the nicest colour ive seen on one, really suits the car.

Normally I prefer brighter colours, but do think the car will age better in that colour scheme.

True - the ARB links tend to wear out before the rubbers perish.

The second 2023 and the 2024 mot were a clean pass so all must have been done.

Hi,

Just my thoughts here.

I’ve just bought a ND with Recaro seats and they are brilliant. Surprised at how comfy they are and I’m 6ft 1. Knowing what I know now the seats could sell it for me. I’m on my 4th MX and I reckon now I wouldn’t buy one without Recaros, which may limit my options as haven’t they gone bust?

That said the grey one does look stunning, it really does suit the car. In my NC I installed the Pioneer double din WiFi job. It was good and it improved the look of the cabin. In someways though I preferred just having the cd changer as that too was good and I fiddled about with it less. The main difference in the end though was having Google maps.

NC’s with low mileage seem a bit pricey to me, but then they are amazing cars and feel tougher to me than the ND, however I do miss the glovebox!

As Mick said go and have a look as it’s the only way to really know for sure and I reckon car dealers even good ones will tell you anything b to suit to sell their car.

Happy New Years Eve!

Nick

On the face of it, this is a pretty genuine Mk3.75 but priced that the top end. I would expect less miles for that money.

As otyhers have said the MOT data is pretty good with only one major that seems to have been rectified. The mileage date is consistent for the year, with no blips in the mileage or descrepancies, as far as I can see.

I have added some screen grabs below that may help you;

Good luck in your choice.

Thanks everyone for the advice, really appreciate it.

Starting to think the Recaro edition might make sense. As I mentioned, I’ll contact Prestige in the New Year and see what it’s like underneath before committing to view it, it’s a 1040 mile round trip after all.

Not sure if it’s my eyes, but does the outside bolster look worn?

On a 17k miles car that bolster is a little worn, maybe caught by a belt or zip when entering the car.
My ex Recaro drivers bolster, car had done 60k miles.

Hmmm, think it’s also wearing budget tyres which is a shame.

Hmm I paid 11k for a sport venture with 29k miles in 2021 I also thought it was expensive but is such a nice car sometimes the more you look the more picky you get, also selling that p/plate will give funds to replace tyres.
