Anyone used Backmarket?

I’m looking for an Android phone, nowt fancy at a decent price. Looking at Backmarket refurbs I find several models that fit the bill.

Any of you lovely people used Backmarket lately? Any pitfalls? Pros and cons? Anything to be wary of?

Thanks for any advice! Drive safe as usual, MTTMX

Yep got an IPhone from them basic model to use as a car tracking devise with a trickle charge from the battery then hid it somewhere in an compartment in the car… its worked fine for the last 2 years or so

Yes, we’ve bought a few cheap iPhones for work and they were fine. Also bought similar stuff from eBay and CEX.

Bought my son’s Pixel 6 Pro from there last year. Great price and the phone was excellent. You can get a little cheaper buying reconditioned from eBay (and even Amazon) if you look for it but there’s a peace of mind from Backmarket because that’s all they do.

Lots, and lots, of follow up emails trying to get you to buy another device immediately afterwards mind.

I’ve not used Backmarket but I’d recommend CeX. You can go in and physically inspect the phone and check the battery health through the phone’s operating system. You’ll also get a warranty. If there’s a phone you really want and it’s not local then buy it grade A on their website as it should arrive looking almost new. If you were after an iPhone I’d suggest Apple Certified Refurbished. Not the absolute cheapest second hand option but I’ve bought several that way and they’re generally indistinguishable from new and should come with a new battery and outer shell (true when I bought mine but subject to change).

I probably shouldn’t do this, if interested I would put a proper for sale post on the forum.

I have a Motorola G85 going spare, bought last year, little used, pristine condition for most likely much less than I reckon a refurbed one these sites would ask.

Have a look at them, see if it’s one on your list.:+1:

Yes, bought a Moto G7 Power off them a couple of years ago for my mother. Everything as described, didn’t experience any issues.

I am curious about this. If its Apple, why not just use Air Tags? Seems like a better solution than paying for an extra line of service?(unless its just a free line that is included with whatever plan you have)

I use it to log some of my ECU readings from my dash command app plus I use it for my music on car play ….!

Fair enough, I run a MS3 Pro ECU myself, which supports datalogging. I can start/stop logging with the push of a dash button(or will be able to when I finish modifying one of my switches for that function) as well as through a laptop app. What I need to do is install an android OS head unit and run a windows emulator so I can get rid of the laptop.

Thanks all, Backmarket seems like a reliable outfit. For whatever reason I’ve always liked Motorola and they naturally have plenty listed. Need to get sorted quite pronto given that even a simple credit card purchase often needs a sms or other authentication.

This modern world, still peopled by analogue humans…

Take care out there!

I agree with MikeyC on this have used both Apple refurbished and Cex without any issues with Cex if there is a near by store you can trade in lots of older tech to offset the cost of the item you want if they don’t have the item in store you can get the money as a voucher and search on their website for something that you would like

Yeh, I bought an iPhone 14 from Backmarket. It was absolutely fine and continues to give good service. If it eases your mind, I would use them again in the future. I to, went through Paralysis by Analysis in my run up to taking the plunge to buy, but have no regrets. Good Luck Terry.
