Anyone used CarHood Warehouse in Chessington?

Noobie here so usual apologies if I’m repeating previous questions from others…

I got the usual cracked plastic rear screen on a late model MK1. Just wondering whether to go glass or plastic and CarHood warehouse do the glass upgrade for about the same amount as a plastic window so would be interested to hear of your experiences with them.

They’re some distance from me so any recommendations Gloucestershire/Wiltshire would be much appreciated also.

Mine has the cockpit brace bar behind the rear seats and I can’t seem to get a clear answer from suppliers whether a glass window would ‘foul’ on this so again, any advice gladly accepted!

  Hi and Welcome.

They are really good in Chessington, you will have no problems there. Go for it

Jack Smith Trimmers in Swansea.Your only man and top job and good price

Just looked at Carhood website there now and way too expensive

Thanks all - have narrowed it down to Jack Smith, Mazmania and Carhood warehouse. All some distance from me so will depend on which fits in with my travel plans over the next couple of months! Jack Smith looking favourite at the moment as could get seats re-trimmed in leather at same time.

How much is jack smith these days?

I really need a new hood before winter sets in and though Swansea is a bit of a trek, happy to do so if the workmanship/price is worth it - which it seems to be from all the reviews!

Quote from last week (for a 96 Mk1) - £300 (fitted) for mohair with heated glass window. These use a glass window taken from a mk2. £400 using brand new window. I didn’t ask for quote on seat re-trim but seems to be about £250 from other posts I’ve read.

Really dumb question here…

Mine has a rear heated window, but no rear heated switch, so guessing it was changed for one in the past, but never wired up.

Id imagine if JW changed the roof, it would be upto someone else to do the wiring for the heated window bit?

(Great price btw!!)

yes - they just do the hood and not the electrics afaik. Mine has a connector on the rear parcel shelf so the wiring loom is there but no switch on the dashboard. My understanding is the switch (and a relay) need to be fitted. Other posts I’ve read seem to suggest that if the loom is in place then it should hook up to the new switch behind the dash next to the rear fog light switch but I haven’t checked yet to see if it’s there.

If the brace bar is of the flat type, or slightly raised, then no problem with a glass rear screen, the glass folds down first, followed by the front section. I have a roll bar and it doesn’t interfere with the top either. AFAIK - none do.

Jack Smith is well known up here in the NE Midlands, and as far as Yorkshire too, so can’t be bad! Mazmania do hood replacements at Club Rallies, so that’s the best time to catch them - but you need to book in early or you will miss out.
