I imagine its going to clean a lot of crap out of my 1991 92k mk1 becuase is old now and I generally (untill I start my new job on the 11th) use cheapo petrol from tesco
I’ve never used it before so I thought to check if anyone has had any trouble or success with it.
The only reason I ask is I am doing a big trip on friday and thought it would be a good time to do it.
Thats the stuff I am going to use, unless I hear any crazy (it blew my 5 up in a ball of fire and smoke at 100mph) stories.
I’ve used Redex on all my cars since my 1st Cortina (showing my age now!)
I have no idea if it has ever done any damage but have never suffered any ill effects, maybe I’m just a sucker for an advertising campiagn they ran decades ago that promised increased performance…If I remember correctly there may have been a blonde in a bikini in the ad, hence my interest!
If I was you I would wait until you are going to have an oil change and do it just before. In theory redex should all burn off in the ignition system but some will get into the oil. I have always used STP Injection cleaner once a year, use it for the last tank of fuel before you have the oil changed. I would also reccomend having a Forte flush at that oil change as well. I flush the engine every other oil change.
Was really anal once, changed the oil and then flushed the new oil straight away, then new oil and filter again you would be amazed at the colour of the oil afterwards.
I used it in my car for a month (Only about 400 miles in my world) before the last MOT as I was worried the emissions might be high. In the end they turned out to be impressively low and all well within the test limits… I can’t say if this is directly attributable to the Redex, But I cant see it causing any problems.
I use this stuff all the time since my roadster failed its exhaust emission test about 4 years ago. It has also stopped the engine speed on tick over from fluctuating, it is now as steady as a rock on tick over and has passed its Mot every year since.
You do exactly what it says on the bottle, ie one measure per tankful but obviously you are probably like me and you don’t let your tank get empty before filling it up so it gets a bit more than the recommended dose. It took about four or five tanks full before the engine was working perfectly. I use it all the time now but only dose the petrol at every other fill up.
