Not sure if this has been mentioned before but following my visit to the spring rally today I helped a member who wasn’t aware of this shortcut.
Press and hold the home button in the car and this will switch the display to Apple CarPlay.

It’s also the same shortcut to switch out of Apple CarPlay.
Good tips cheers I was faffing about the other day trying to get out of car play to change radio stations 
I should have been more specific that it toggles between CarPlay and the native in-car system. Thanks for the input.
In car play, the favourites button (the star) will bring you out of car play to your starred stations. Hitting the nav button brings you straight back to whichever nav app you were using in car play.
