hi, thinking or upgrading the anti roll bars as first mod for improving handling, is it ok to use my local garage or do i need a specialist ? cheers
Changing the rear ARB is very easy to do. 4 nuts holding the ARB in place.
The tricky bit is whether the drop links can be undone and reused, but even then if they are getting on a bit it’s worth removing them and updating / upgrading.
Front is a bit trickier, purely down to the access, but not much.
Definitely a job that could be undertaken yourself… depending if you don’t mind getting under car.
Which ever route you take don’t forget to post pics
It’s definitely a job a DIY mechanic can handle, so I think your local garage will be fine. Do the drop links as well, makes sense to.
It’s very refreshing to read that somebody is actually upgrading their running gear in a sensible order instead of going straight for the springs and shocks.
thx for advice. are the ones on mx5 parts good? i know alot more then secondhand rx8 ones…
also do i need adjustable drop links?
No idea about the quality of the parts.
Adjustable or non-stock droplinks should only be required if you’re changing suspension geometry, so different wishbones, lowering springs etc. Then again, adjustable droplinks can help you tune your handling, whatever your setup. Stock should be fine though for the time being and very economic!
cheers
Covered this topic some time ago:
For anyone else looking to change the ARB’s and I’m not sure if the thicker ARB’s make a difference, I found that for the fronts at least the following link worked with no problems
Revised NC sway bar installation instructions - MX-5 Miata Forum
For the drop links it’s not worth wasting any time if they don’t come off at the first attempt. Just give up and either cut them off leaving the upper link on the ARB or smash the joints off in situ. Gallons of releasing fluid or whatever is usually a waste of time and effort. Just buy a complete new set before you start.
I used the Yellow Spot bars from the RX8 with revised bushes.
Did you just use stock droplinks?
Yes, I used Blueprint parts as they semed to be better made than the originals but had a different nut size and fitted without problems. The Yellow Spot arbs are only a different thickness / thicker walls so fit with no problem. I would recommend a second person to hold the other end of the front bar as you negotiate the way through the front.
The front ARB on the ND look like a real PITA to replace
The back ARB is four bolts, which I think even I could manage!
