Archaic taillights NC any good?

Hi, anyone familiar with these? I believe they look great and as i don’t like my actual taillights (NC2) because to “chromy” i would like to know if they’re any good…They’re supposed to have E-approval.

The first customer review on their website actually says they’re not legal for the UK

“Bought these believing they were fully UK compliant, they’re not - no reflectors. In addition the rear high intensity lights only work with front fog lights - MoT fail.”

As you say, they look quite funky!

The revieuw…didn’t scroll that far :pensive:…so they’re not compliant for Belgium too (not sure about the fog-lights but the reflector is an issue). Quality and fit seems good and it’s not such a big yearly-MOT job. Not sure about it but not many options available if you want to replace those chromy taillights…

I saw these on YouTube yesterday, they look quite cool but the guy in the video had a couple of minor issues getting them to work properly but he did show that they’re supplied with a couple of stick on reflectors for the UK market.

Easy to swap out for MOT but could the police pick you up on it? I suspect it would be because they are unusual rather than being poor visibility. Anyways, look cool ( though you will never see the results yourself)
Those naff reflectors screw up the cool look a bit?

Beware of the plethora of very poor stick-on reflectors claiming to be Scotchlite or compatible; most are akin to a bit of foil with some pretty hexagon patterns stuck on,

These are not a patch on genuine Scotchlite for wide-angle high-efficiency reflectivity, and adhesion.

Thanks, nice instruction film here… i like them, even if the fit is “tight” and needs minor adaptions. As for the reflectors, i’m sure there are better looking (smaller?) reflectors on the market but its true that they would spoil the look a bit.
Police picking you up is a possibility but as they’re E-approved (found the printable paperwork for that on the the Topmiata website) and if reflecors fitted that should not be a problem (beside time waisting…) i think.

Just watched an installation video on YouTube, by Completely Driven NC ( I think he’s a club member)

Not a straight forward swap out, some of the new lens plastic housing needed trimming off.

Umm, sorry guys, but what’s wrong with the ‘proper’ factory-fitted rear lights ?

Merry Christmas to all our readers !

Hi, yes thats me

Some folk don’t like the way they look, I don’t like the naff looking (imo) chrome (or indeed chrome in general) on my NC1’s tail lights so I got them wrapped in fly-eye film to knock it back to a far more aesthetically pleasing (to me) look. You can easily see the difference between the two in the pic below.

Completely agree, these chrome touches were a bad idea, and it’s even worse on the NC2…glad thzere are aftermarket solutions (even if not perfect) and ideas .
Mery X-mass to all!!

In theory not a bad idea but, I think they’re flawed…
Not e marked, no reflectors, require trimming to fit, I’ll stick to my oem rears at the moment

I’ve always been surprised at how few aftermarket LED rear lights (especially those with sequential indicators) are available for NCs, given how many cars sold worldwide. When I had a Toyota GT86, there were quite a few rear light options.

If the Archaic ones sell well, hopefully we might see some more coming on to the market.

There would be less need for these (particular in this NC case) aftermaket solutions if Mazda would have done a better job from the beginning in their taillight design …(my opinion) as i believe the NC (1,2 and3) oem taillights look hideous with that chrome.
Doen’t have to be LED for me just some darker tints and NO CHROME!!!

OK, so call me a dinosaur if you like, but what is wrong with chrome ?

I’d love chrome accessories on my 5 - such as petrol filler and door handles etc, but you can’t get original equipment stuff like that anymore, because an NC is too old, and the aftermarket stuff that I’ve seen is such poor quality.

Oh well, that’s life - I’ll just have to love my car as it is, and I do, very much.

Merry Christmas.

These are pretty nice:

Mine is ‘06 so a bit of chrome is classic… not too much mind

Especially if you don’t need a Stanley knife to get them to fit properly🙄

You only need to fot a couple of seperate reflectors to be legal
