Are replacement speakers worth it?

Oh they plugged straight into my harness and work fine.

From the mx5parts website :-

When fitting these to a Mk3 or 3.5, please note that on the drivers side speaker, the black/white wire is the positive, and the red/orange wire is negative, then on the passenger side the orange wire is the positive and the green wire is negative.

Thanks everyone. I have bought the adapters so hopefully it should be easy but as they are for a Ford I just wanted to be careful and check first before I took everything apart. Sadly it’s raining this morning so they will have to wait.

slightly off topic has any one upgraded the speakers in the headrest on the seats of an ND  if so what make and how easy was the fitment … :grimacing:

If you dont buy some Focal components, you’ll regret it.

Well the new speakers are in and although they do sound better than the old ones I’m a bit disappointed that there isn’t as much difference as I expected. I bought them from Car Audio Direct and was really pleased with the quick delivery (2 Days). Strangely they were slightly cheaper on their eBay site than on their own website.
My next question is how much sound should be coming out of the rear speakers between the seats? I’ve adjusted the fader so that its just on the rears and there is hardly any sound at all coming from them. I’ve read a few posts saying that they don’t produce a lot of sound but mine seem really bad. Thought I’d ask before I spend more money :joy:

PS I broke 5 trim clips!

Very little sound from original rears
Swapped mine out for a larger pair, new head unit produces more oomph so powers them fine.
Definitely more noticeable.

Unless you lift the treble further up in the doors you will not get much of a stereo imaging.
Right now the treble is being directed in to your legs because all of the frequencies are coming from the same low position in the door.

A component set with higher mounted tweeters is the way to go.

That’s the way I went

Modified original housing to accept larger tweeter, crossover attached to inner side of door card.

Changed mine in my NC for JBL Club 8622F speakers, loads of difference

The difference between an average speaker and a good one is night and day. As said probably not cost efficient to use in an MX5 but the likes of Kenwood etc at £30 a pair are never going to set the world alight.

Hi, i’ve been reading about your stereo and speaker upgrades and it’s helped me a lot. Is it worth changing the 3 1/2 inch tweeters that are further up the door? Do you think? And if so any advice on what to change for? Thanks loads
