Ashby Folville Car Show - September 14th 2010

A small suggestion for those folk who meet with the Cambridge crew at Needingworth. It has been suggested that some of us may be interested in visiting the monthly car show held at Ashby Folville, Melton Mowbray

For those who are not aware the Ashby Folville Car Show location is here, (this opens up in Google Maps).

I believe this year the price to show your car has gone up to a staggering £2, so get saving, this fee applies where ever you get to park.  Should you wish to park on the cricket pitch, you would need to be arriving there at approx 1730.  There are normally several hundred cars and motorbikes of varying ages and styles so there is literally something of interest for everyone.

The show is every 2nd Tuesday of the month during the summer so this would mean anyone who would like to go would miss the ER - Cambridgeshire meet.

I am intending to go (have been talking about it long enough) either this month or in September before the nights close in again, should anyone else fancy it we could always convoy up together.

There is a further write up by Triumph TR7.com here

 Hi

Yes I would be interested in going next month ,as I`m gong to my first Cambs meet on 10th August ,so September should be ok.

I went last year and it was an excellent night out

Andy and Linda

I’m up for this one. Don’t mind August or September.

Cheers

Why not make the event a meet night activity?

We run several different activities and runs from our Norfolk meets and they usually work well.

Last months Photo-call was a new and welcome edition.

Photo call??

Knew nothing about it, or indeed have heard nothing since.

Possibly a bit late for this months, but will raise the subject at Tuesdays meet, as I get the distinct impression not many from our group use the OC/ER forum so will not have seen my post.

I may well then go next month myself.

not seen a pic yet though ?

I think that meet night ‘activities’ are a good idea.

Hi Andy and Linda

Look forward to seeing you again at Tuesday nights meet.  To save cooking, food is available at the Ferry Boat, they do a great deal, 2 meals for £9.95, which most of us go for.

See you then

Sue

So a bunch of ER’s parked on someones lawn ??? What was the photo-call in reference to then?

Just a bunch of the ER doing what comes naturally…having fun

I think ths guy with the lawn has family in another country and there is a standing joke between them that when “Dad” gets a liking for something he doesn’t do it by half. He recenty bought his MX-5 and as a bit of a laugh for his family he wanted to send them a photo seeming like if he’d gone a bought loads of them.

Chris, the Photo-call in question relates to one of our keenest members Alan,

Alan has a reputation for going the whole hog with anything he sets his mind too and since discovering the MX-5 and the Norfolk Meet just a few short months ago, he has set about joining the elite in purchasing two MX-5’s already.

His Daughter is living abroad and with regular e-mails exchanged daily, Dad is often given a fair amount of stick for his large amounts of enthusiasm, so the pic with twenty or so MX-5’s thrown over the front lawn was sent to the daughter under the title “he has really gone overboard this time!”

Just a little harmless fun really, and it got us out in our cars instead of sitting around filling our faces in the pub, wehad a god laugh attempting to fill a garden with fives and Alan got a great shot for his daughter without the use of any fake, unimaginative and less face it always obvious “photo-shopping”

Oops! robbie posted before i finished typing!

Must remember to type as fast as I drive, hang on that would mean it would all go a little sideways as well!

italics?

Ahh now at last that makes sense, initially I was thinking you might have had an evening that dealt with teaching photography in some way…

Jamie, that all depends on just how good someone is at using Photoshop. You would be surprised at what can be done.

Anyways, thanks guys for the replies, all clear now.

So in order to confirm for all those interested in going September 14th, I would suggest that we aim to meet at the RamJam, A1 Northbound, just prior to the RAF Cottesmore turn, for 1600 (4PM), and possibly find somewhere to eat after visiting the show. Any suggestions for a meal stop appreciated.

Is is anticipated that two hours should be sufficient time to cover the show and we can then move onto a venue for a meal and drinks before heading back home.

Please copy/paste the following after adding any names I might have missed, cheers.

 Hi Chris

I will have to meet you there as I finish work at 5.30 and may skip the meal afterwards I will keep you posted

Thanks Andy and Linda

 Hi

There is a pub across the road or a hog roast at Ashby could be an idea

The Corrington Arms 01664 840228 did`nt know if they serve food in the evening when the car shows on

Cheers Andy

Andy, thanks for the input.

Chatting with one or two that have been before led to the Corrington Arms being discounted. The reason being that as they are the only pub locally they get mobbed by folk visiting the show and it can take forever to get a beer let alone anything else.

The hog roast I will have to ask further about as I was not aware that was available. If I may speak for those already talking about going, I believe the main idea would possibly be to find somewhere out of the village where folk could sit down etc…although having not been there before myself I am having to be somewhat led for ideas and or venues.
