Audio Equipment

My MX5 is a 2011 NC

I have a stack of papers etc. and the original Owners handbook supplied with the car BUT. The radio/cd players illustrated in the manual bear no resemblance to the one fitted. I’m guessing that it is original factory fitted, but I can’t see any makers name or model number.

Could you post a photograph of the head unit? That would make identification much easier!

Failing that, could you list what buttons there are and what’s on them, which again may assist in identifying what you have.

Is it a navigation unit? If so it”ll be a Sanyo or Alpine. If it has buttons to adjust the volume it’s Sanyo, if it has a knob that you twist to adjust the volume it’s an Alpine.

Philip, I have posted a photo on the club Facebook site, but should confess not certain how to get it on this forum. But
Across the top of the unit are four buttons from left to right,
FM1/2 : AM : CD: MEDIA, below these is a slot for a CD a LOAD and eject button either side.
Then a large round knob for on/off and volume control: a narrow screen and a second round knob marked TUNE, push, AUDIO CONTROL, and TEXT
Another row of buttons numbered 1, to six buttons 1 and 2 have the word DISC and an up or down arrow, 3 RPT, 4PROG/RDM , 5 fast reverse arrows and 6 fast forward arrows.
Below all of these are four more buttos , push up or down, two each side of a cover marked Multi Function Audio System.

Thanks Robbie, but it is not a navigation unit, the display is only 25mm high.

Sounds like someone has installed a single DIN head unit

Or is it the std head unit for an NC ?

I’m guessing this is what’s in your Owners Manual. Either someone has changed the radio in your car or you have the wrong Owners Manual. What is the 6th from last digit of the VIN? If it’s a 1 the radio in the photo from @CBRDEANO should be fitted, if it’s a 2 or above then it should have the radio in the image that I’ve posted.

CBRDEANO, Great Thank you,That’s the one. Now the questions are,
!. What model is it, 2 Where can I find some instructions/information, and 3. Failing all else is it an easy matter to put in an alternative player, possibly with USB connectivity.

Robbie, Thanks for the photo. Yes that is the illustration in my manual. However, the number on the VIN is a 2, so it does appear that at some stage the unit has been changed. The picture from CBRDEANO is correct for my car.

Thanks again for your help
