Audio Upgrade

Double Din is a standard formfactor, the difference between 7" and 6.8" displays is a mix between the size of the bezels and how truthful the manufacturer is being. As for needing to trim fascias/adjust position, sometimes the tolerances aren’t great and some head units do need extra work.

I may just go for a 6.8 just to be safe and avoid any extra faff - what do you mean by extra work @eob2000 - do you mean brute force  @Lakkabay did you have the Alpine unit too?

Nope, mine was a 2012 Bose system in my NC2. I’d stick with 6.8" as well if I were you. If you need clarification, just give Dynamic Sounds a call (if you’re buying from them). Pretty sure they’ll try and convince you to get the Pioneer! As I mentioned I didn’t buy the head unit from them as I found it slightly cheaper on Amazon. However the one on Amazon didn’t come bundled with the DAB antenna - stick on windscreen type - like the complete kit from Dynamic did. However I wanted a different DAB aerial so Amazon for the head unit and Dynamic for the rest of the kit.

Do Dynamic sounds have some deal with Pioneer then?

They were pretty good price-wise but I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the ones suggested here - they’re all good quality. As has been said, re the spec it depends if you want full wireless connectivity or don’t mind having a usb lead to plug into for CarPlay and Android Auto. Wireless will be more expensive. You pays yer money…

I rang Dynamic Sounds and they were ok, not SUPER helpful but did say the 7 inch screen of the Kenwood 8021 will fit with the fascia. They also said they don’t sell the DAB aerials - only the stick on type - which I’m not keen on. They also don’t have the Kenwood camera in stock but assured me the Pioneer will work just as well.

Anyone see any issues with the below? He said to go for the NON BOSE kit as I have the Alpine head unit currently - assuming that’s correct. Other than this I guess I’ll just have to source the aerial elsewhere, any recommendations?

7” pioneer fitted ok

Go for the Kenwood Cmos 230. I have that one and based on the quality Kenwood unit you want.
See who else might have it too.

Odd, considering I bought the aerial from them! https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/incar-tec-70-964-dab-am-fm-active-amplified-roof-mount-antenna-with-5m-cables.html
Perhaps they don’t recommend it but it works fine on my car!

Ok thanks guys, I’ll get the camera from the car audio place and the aerial you linked there from Dynamic. The guy i spoke to seemed a bit grumpy to be honest, pretty much just asked me what I wanted rather than offer advice. Maybe I just got him on an off day

Am i doing the right thing buying the facsia kit I showed in the pic above or have I cocked that up too?

I was just looking at that for you.
It initially does look right.
Getting late now so will compare for you tomorrow just to double check.
You haven’t cocked anything up at all yet as looks like the shop advice wasn’t great. :+1:

Thanks so much, thank the lord for you guys or I’d be right up the swanny

I ended up filing the bezel so that the head unit sits as far forwards as possible.
The pic is a 7" unit.

With the Bose head unit, the steering wheel phone button has the options to Initiate voice controlled dialling , accept or reject incoming calls , terminate current call, etc.,

Mute Audio ? Meh

Morning!
That kit to me contains the facia - CONNECTS 2 FACIA CT24MZ20. (States Matt in the description).
The wiring loom - CONNECTS 2 WIRING LOOM- CTSMZ002.2.
The “Generic” Patch lead.
You want the Kenwood DMX8021DABS.
The Kenwood CMOS 230 Rear Camera.
The DAB/FM antenna as the link from Lakkabay.
Again, DOUBLE CHECK all this is correct.

At the time of my install (as my post above) I bought the items separate as it kept the costs down.
Likewise, the bundled kit wasn’t available.
I bought the Kenwood patch lead separate too.

THIS MAY NOT BE APPLICABLE TO YOUR CAR.
Now because the antenna is powered (signal) and also was fitted with a different plug on the back, I had to buy the CONNECTS 2 ANTENNA ADAPTER- CT27AA36.
This converts it to the standard round antenna plug for the Kenwood…
I DON’T know what is on the back of the Alpine unit you have.
Therefore, you may/may not need it.
See attached pics.

A matter for you, but I took photo’s at each stage, plugs, etc etc just in case.
I also set up the new unit and made sure it all worked before pushing and securing everything back together.
Take your time and it will all be fine. :crossed_fingers::slightly_smiling_face:

Ah, thought you had! I didn’t even know 7" were available - thought 6.8" was the max. Even with the thinnest bezel in the kit from Dynamic I still had to sit the unit back a smidgen. I did consider a bit of reconstruction work on the bezel but didn’t want to risk breakimng it. Also the facia / bezel from Dynamic seems to have a satin coating on it (like many plastics in a car interior) - I guess so it matches in with the rest of the interior - and I didn’t want to risk this peeling off.

Thanks alot for going through that - and yep I those items you listed are correct. You mention the ‘generic’ patch lead though in the upgrade kit and then that you got the Kenwood patch lead - should I be getting that instead and buying the things in the kit individually.

Thanks for the aerial pointer - I may just get that adaptor as an insurance policy in case I need it - only a tenner

The pack states it will be fine and work.
Whether you buy the kit or source the items separately is a matter for your good self.
It would be wrong of me to spend your money!

Fantastic! Thanks so much. I shall purchase said items with a plan to get it all fixed up this weekend. Will let you know how it goes and include pics! Thanks again
