Spent a great weekend in Austria a week or so back, ostensibly to see the Formula 1 grand prix but also had a day driving through the mountains to visit the Dachstein Skywalk and the 5 Fingers viewing platform in the mountains above Obertraun. On our way back to the apartment we were staying at in Neumarkt im Steiermark, we came across a fabulous driving road purely by chance. Take the 114/114a from Trieben down through the valley to Sankt Georgen ob Judenburg. Fantastic scenery and almost carefree driving. We were in a rented Skoda Octavia RS which was actually a great car, but all the time we were on those undulating and winding roads all I could think of was how great it would be if I was in the MX5. In fact, any of the mountain roads in the Styria region would be a joy to drive in a MX5. Oh, and the grand prix wasn’t too bad either!
