Soon to be a proud dad to an MX 5, I was wondering if those units that are on ebay are up to the task set by the sellers?

Can’t comment on that exact model of code reader, but have an Autel AL319 and the Sealey equivalent and am really happy with them.
A former work colleague who used to work at Sealey tools in Bury St Edmunds told me about them and said how good they were.
Autel supply Sealey with their code readers.
The only difference between the Autel units and the Sealey ones is the badge and the price, you pay a bit more for the Sealey badge.
What do you need it for?
If it is just the normal error code reading and resetting I can recommend the much cheaper Autel Maxiscan MS309.
Had mine for several years now and very pleased. Can be purchased for £10 or less on ebay.
I read on this site that that was the one to go for to read codes.
So I will look out for the MS309 thanks for the heads up guys.
Be careful because there are a lot of “fake” Autel Code Readers out there. I bought a fake MS 509 without realising. It took me a while to realise that it won’t connect to a PC and cannot be updated - it doesn’t have all the AUTEL software. On the other hand it works OK as just a code reader and connects to my NC.
I have the Autel AL419 (genuine one!) and have used it on a 2002 Golf (which had problems) and my 2007 NC (for curiosity). Worked OK on both cars as far as I can tell, with my limited use (cross-checking garage upselling!)
