I am looking at a MX5 tomorrow morning that I am thinking of buying. The car has Autoexe coilovers fitted. I don’t know much about these other than they cost a fortune. My question is, are they worth it? Car will be used mainly for the track but also some road use. Are they easy/expensive to service/repair?
Thanks M-m. It seems not many people know much about these as they are only usually sold in Japan (and a bit in the US I think).
Yes, at $4000 they certainly aren’t cheap! However, I didn’t pay a premium for them (I’ve now bought the car) and the car is primarily for the track so I’ll see how I get on with them.
I’d be surprised in Autoexe actually makes shocks. Like a lot of Japanese tuners, they use shocks from one of the big 3; Kayaba, Tokico, Showa, or, more recently, just like the UK.Europe, sourcing from OE suppliers in the ROK/PRC/ROC.
Thanks AT. I am having the suspension set up today, for track use, so I’m expecting a firm ride but I will report back here if there is anything interesting to say (first track day won’t be for a few weeks yet though).
