I’d like to apply snow foam to my car as a pre wash, but I live in a flat and can’t use a power lance.
Does anyone have any experience with Autoglym’s hand pump applicator? It seems to get rather mixed reviews.
Many thanks
I have a hand pump applicator (not Autoglym) and in my opinion, using one is a lot less faffing about than using a power washer. Yes you have to pump it a lot, but i consider it an upper body workout, saves loads on gym fees!
Never used it but i always find anything that Autoglym priduce to be very good.
I live in a bungalow but my NB 2.5 1.8 Icon lives in a rented garage several minutes puff away
Neither the bungalow nor the garage have water or electric power to be able to do any significant cleaning to Bullit plus I’m now a cream crackered old lady with no elbow grease
So, I negotiated with the manager of my local drive through hand car wash to use my Autoglym Super Resin Polish instead of his own products
First they power hosed any dirt off, then she went through the super foamer wash and air dry before using my Autoglym
That was a few weeks ago
Today I was putting her away in the garage when someone passing commented
“That’s a posh car” and was shocked to learn she was 20 years old
All down to Autoglym and elbow grease of my local hand wash drive through car guys
AutoGlym Super Resin Polish is my go to product for my ND…it’s brilliant stuff!
Thank you. Another recommendation for Autoglym products. Although it’s actually their Polar Blast snow foam sprayer I was looking for help with.
Yes we do tend to go off on a tangent sometimes…well, most times actually.
I have the Polar Foam Sprayer. Got it cheap on a bundle deal, a couple of months ago. It does work well but there is a lot of hand pumping required during use.
The first pump up doesn’t last long as you have a large volume of liquid and less air to compress but if you half to 3/4 fill it then it works better. Still have to have 3 or 4 pump up sessions. There is a blow off valve so you know when you have the right pressure.
Takes a few seconds of adjustment on the pray nozzle and of you go.
I wouldn’t want to do a big car but for MX-5 (mine’s now an NC2) it isn’t too tiring. Especially as you aren’t doing every day!
That’s very helpful, many thanks.
In your position, I wouldn’t use foam via a manual sprayer. It’s a lot of effort without much reward were my findings, using an IK Foam Pro 2 sprayer which is well regarded.
I would instead using a standard liquid pump sprayer, combined with a suitably diluted citrus pre-wash, e.g. BH Surfex HD at 10:1.
A good idea. I’ll give that a go first. Thanks
You also don’t need to foam Touch-Less (although I do) for it to work Touch-Less - Bilt Hamber
I wash my car when it’s raining. I get a free rinse pre-soap then an after- rinse too. If I get lucky a quick dry off with towels.

Apologies for seemingly ‘going off at a tangent’ re your query. It was the ‘living in a flat’ part that caught my eye because I’ve owned Bullit since 2007 and have also lived in flats [Whitby, Market Drayton and Edgbaston] when I did have elbow grease and chucking buckets of water over her to wash and rinse she never came up as good as I wanted
No apology necessary. I enjoyed reading it!
