Automatic not going into drive

Hi, I have noticed recently that when I select drive the gearbox is not engaging drive straight away, this only seems to happen when cold and doesn’t do it every time sometimes engages after a few seconds sometimes return to park then back to drive. Any ideas where to start? Thanks Dave

1st base is ATF still has the required level. “How to’s on Google”
2nd base…sensors / hydraulic clutch adjustments.
3rd base & last choice…worn bushes.

Agree with above
I would also consider a fluid change.
Mine occasionally gave a small clunk/delay when engaging drive when cold, changing the fluid improved it no end.
