Autosolo at North Weald Airfield Sunday 23rd September

MX5OC is again invited to come and play at the 7Oaks & District Motor Club Autosolo at North Weald Airfield on Sunday 23rd September.

A number of 5s ran at the August event (http://www.mx5oc.co.uk/forum/forums/t/45025.aspx?PageIndex=1) and had a good day despite torrential rain at times.

Regulations & entry form available here:

http://www.keepandshare.com/doc/4520466/autosolo-23-september-2012-entry-form-and-regs-pdf-214k?da=y

Any road legal car is suitable, no competition licence or safety equipment is required so if you fancy the opportunity to have a play in your 5 (or anything else for that matter) then pop an entry in.

It doesn’t matter if you have never done anything before at all or if you are an ex autotest champion, we know you’ll have fun.

Any questions, just shout.

Andy

Well as Andy hasn’t explained what an Autosolo is here is a brief
description posted elsewhere:-

What is an Autosolo? It is a forward only autotest on tarmac. This is a
course laid out with cones on the runway and you are given a diagram of the
route to drive around them against the clock-simples…

Well not quite when you find yourself in the middle of a sea of cones wondering
where the **** you are supposed to go next Smile

It usually consists of something like three attemps at three tests.

It is one of the easiest forms of motorsport and does not require any
modifications to the car, they must in fact have been driven to the event. No
helmets overalls or gloves are required. You do not need a licence, you just
need to be a member of an invited club (or failing that join Sevenoaks)

One thing we should point out is that list 1B tyres are not allowed. This
means some of the track day specials like the Toyo R88 Yoko A008 etc. Most
normal road tyres are ok and I have a current Blue Book (as does Andy as he is C
of C) with the lists so it is easy enough to check

As Andy says feel free to ask questions.

Regs and entry form are now up on the Sevenoaks Motor Club web site , here

http://www.sevenoaksmotorclub.com/regs.html

As before any questions please ask

I am considering entering this, I haven’t done anything like it before. On the entry form could I just put mx5oc down as the club?

Thanks.

Yes, that’ll be fine.

There were about four guys from mx5oc last time as first-timers and they all had good fun.

It seems that the Skull and Cross Bones will be flown here…Smile

Any other takers?

I may be bringing a couple of friends along, do you know what sort of time they typically finish? Also in the regs it says no passengers are allowed. I’m just intrigued what’s the reasoning behind that?

Thanks

Re the timing, much depends on the weather and number of entries, but I would hope that we are all done by 4pm at the latest.

Will also try and get started a bout 9.30 which will help.

Quite simply, no passengers because it contravenes the MSA regulations and they wouldn’t be covered by the event insurance should anything go wrong. Whilst the speeds are quite low, they aren’t as low as on an autotest which also doesn’t have any extra safety standards, but not as fast as a sprint which requires helmets, overalls, gloves, licences, track licence, marshals, scrutineers etc.

Hope that helps? Bloomin’ good fun, don’t you know?

Ok for those of you entering the Autosolo and particularly
those whose haven’t done an event like this before (and probably a few who
have)  a few general reminders .

Paperwork

Don’t leave it until the last minute to get your entry form
in, and make sure you have filled it in correctly and included the fee. Please make sure you have read and understood the
regulations, both Blue Book and Supplementary, and any other paperwork you have
been sent.

Remember to bring the following with you:-

1 Club membership card for one of the invited clubs.

  1. MOT Certificate or V5 if less than 3 years old.

  2. Insurance Certificate.

  3. Gate pass as supplied with Finals

Vehicle

Must be road going with current Tax MOT and Insurance
and have been driven to event. Must be on list 1A tyres and not List 1B
as defined in Blue Book.

Should be in good condition:-tyres should have legal tread,
battery should be properly secured etc.
Make sure fluids are all topped up, including sufficient Petrol, and
tyre pressures are correct.

General

Try not to get there late. You should be there by 8.15am,
when signing on opens. When you get there go to signing on with your paperwork
and as the name suggests sign on. You then need to take the car to be
scrutineered, which for an Autosolo is not that intensive.

Once this is done you can familiarise yourself with the
layout of the first test, walk the course etc, until the Drivers Briefing at
9.30-DO NOT miss the briefing!.

North Weald is an Airfield and as such can get a bit chilly
when the wind blows-which is pretty much all the time. I usually have my bag
with me which has a selection of clothing from waterproofs to sun tan cream.
Quite a few people take a small tent or ground sheet to decant all the useful
bits from the boot/interior to.

The above is not intended to be a full list of everything
you might need-rather an aide memoir-if you forget something vital it is your
own fault!

Finally:-If you are unsure of anything then ASK! Above all
enjoy yourself-it is supposed to be fun Big Smile

Yes, I am coming along in Belle, the Mariner Blue MKI Buccaneer5 Motorsport track car. Never done it before

Ok folks entries close on Wednesday 19th for this event, which is our last one for this year. I think we have at least a couple of MX5s out.

If anyone else is thinking about coming and playing then get your entry form in ASAP Big Smile

I’m not a fully fledged and paid up member of the oc, and thus don’t have a membership card, is this a problem? If so who do I need to contact in order to cancel my entry as I have already sent it off. Thanks

John

Hi John,

Do you really want to cancel? That would be a shame.  We can sort out club membership on the day so not a problem at all.

PM me if you still need to withdraw, or look at the regs at the beginning of this thread and that should give Keith Crocker’s contact details - he’s the chap you sent the entry to.

Hope you will be there on Sunday,

Andy

OK, that’s fine as if we can sort something on the day, thanks for all the replies. I’ll see you on sunday, I will be in the rusty (and most probably filthy) BRG mk1.

Looking forward to this, my first time, with some trepidation. The forecast for a tropical storm doesnt help

Big Smile  bring your brollies and a sense of humour and you’ll be in good shape.

See you all bright & early!

Do you have a copy of the results? or will they be going up on the club website at some point? I had to leave before the end so would like to see wow I did overall.

Here you go John. If you had stayed you would have picked up a 3rd in class award - well done!

They should be up on the 7Oaks website - I’ll chase that up.

Sorry about the weather - it did get rather unpleasant for a while, but it did improve for the last test and all those that stayed on had a blast.

Thanks, I would’ve stayed till the end but I had somewhere I had to be, it wasn’t just the rain that put me off.

It was a fun day I will have to try to attend a few more next year.

I noticed there was someone taking photos who seemed to be a member of the club, will these be going up on the website? I’d be interested to see them.
