AutoSolo

Hi All,

Have many of you tried this? I attempted to goto my first one this weekend at Rockingham but arrived too late to be able to sign on frustratingly. Anyone else know of any in the midlands/south midlands in the next few weeks?

Thanks

I used to Autotest back in the 80’s and 90’s but gave it up due to work commitments.

Then my circumstances changed so I signed up to the ANWCC and competed in my first Autosolo at Accrington yesterday.

For your area try the Association Of West Midlands Motor Clubs (AWMMC) website they should list all local events.

Get out there and have fun.

yes indeed, this past weekend we were cone dodging at Debden Airfield in Essex.  I can highly recommend it, its brilliant fun in an MX-5.

It helps that we have a car (Project Merlot) that we don’t mind hitting a few cones with but its not compulsary to drive like a loon all the time and at this last event we never hit anything all day long!.

We did our first couple of Autosolo events last year and each one we’ve been to has seen more MX-5s then any other single car.

Autosolo in an Mx5 is brilliant, its low speed but the buzz you get is superb because you can really throw them into the bends and they stick.

Keep an eye on this site for upcoming events, https://sites.google.com/view/autosolouk/home

The upcoming Kemble event with Bath MC is a really good and well attended event, you will find plenty of Mx5 owners to have a chat too.

If you want to try a grass autotest on a weekday evening, try either Rugby car club or Loughborough car club.

another possibility is Formula G, which is a bit like autosolo, the next round is July 30th I think, at Rockingham. You need a helmet for this however.

Would like to try an autotest but worried about doing it on grass and bottoming out a fair bit as its the other halfs daily driver. How smooth are the fields/am i having an over imaginative imagination?

Loughborough is very smooth, Rugby is a bit rougher. my car is a lowered mk2 by circa 50mm, and I scrape the standard front splitter as I drive into the field, but nothing else. I’ve been doing most of their events for 6 years without any actual damage.

There is one scheduled for this Wednesday, but there is a risk it will be cancelled if too wet.

Love doing Autosolos, they are a right laugh!! Reason I’ve ended up buying a '5!!

I’ve done Autosolos/tests on and off for about 12 years (with quite a gap over that period due to work/family commitments), mainly using one of my (now) father-in-laws fleet of Micras, but also used a Nova and Mk2 Caddy Pickup.

Find the atmosphere is always good and people are more than happy to give you tips if you ask!

Bit further North, but I’m involved with three of the Northern Motor Clubs, and run the Social Media for the Under 17 Motor Club (NW), we’ve got a couple of events coming up 19/20 August.

Ma5da came out to our last event , and if you click on the U17MCNW link below there’s a few LiveStream Videos!

Hi

Agree this is great fun and is a low cost entry to motor sport.

As already said always seems to be a friendly atmosphere and in The East Anglia Motor Sport series we have had up to 15 MX5 entries at any one event.

Looking forward to the next one in a couple of weeks. (Now to work out how to beat Martin in the next round).

Andrew

There are a couple coming up in Worcs/Gloucs area over the next 2 months:

September: RosSolo

October: Sixty & Worcestershire Racecourse Revels

See you there!

Dan

I plan to dip my toe in the motorsport water this weekend. Off to Debden Autosolo on Sunday.

I’ve set my sights high and am aiming for second from last, but then I am an underachiever.  Frown

I was out yesterday with Preston motorsport club up at preston docks.

I heard yesterday the Preston motorsport club will be hosting two ANWCC rounds next season, hopefully at preston docks.

I have a quick video on you tube of yesterday’s course if you find it jump to 3 minutes where the actual test starts.

It’s a cracking venue for an Autosolo albeit it very slippy when wet.

I will be working on the 19th but will be out for the December events.

My mk1 mx5 has passed the MOT so just waiting to fit a hydraulic handbrake and I should be good to go.

Brilliant. Know that they have been asked about doing a couple of ANWCC rounds, but this should be great especially if Bolton can’t secure a venue!!

I’m gutted that I can’t make Booths Hall either. Been told its a cracking venue!!

Hoping to get my hydro fit this weekend and looking to do the Autotest on 03/12, that’ll be interesting (with wrong diff)

Entries are now open for Bath Motor Clubs 1st Autosolo this year at Kemble.

The clubmans event does NOT require a MSA competition license.
