Average miles per year?

Was looking at miles and wondered how mine compares to others.

59000 over 15 years = 3.9k per year

Lower?

Higher?

Stick?

151K ÷ 23= 6565.

That’s an open-ended question…

Driving; before retiring approx 14,300 m/y for 42,
and after retiring approx 4,300 m/y for 18.

But for a lifetime of all travel a mere 13,000 m/y.

And back in context for an MX5?
Approx a mere 2,000 m/y for 9,
and at a total write-off spend of 130p/mile. Ouch.
It’s an expensive toy, but worth every penny in smiles in the sun per mile.

Fair point, I was referring to the miles on the mx5 not driving in general. I’ve only had mine for less than half of its life but enjoy those miles more than the boring motorway ones in other car.

I do 15k+ at the moment

Had a 96 since 2005, came with 85k kms, now 270k kms. From 2005-2010, I was doing 15-20k miles a year on it. From 2010 to 2017, went down to around 4000 miles per year (change in commute from 50 mile drive to 45 minute train commute. 2017 to 2020, about 500 miles a year thanks to a second car also doing little miles per year. Since then, about 1500 a year.

In that time, 2 engines, 1 clutch, 4 hoods, 4 batteries, 4 sets of seats, 3 sets of coil overs, sills, arches, respray, which is now looking old, 3 sets of headlamps (now Lucas!), rollbar in, rollbar out, 2 radiators, aircon died years ago, new carpet (well new to me), maybe 8 sets of tyres.

Not enough, averaged around 3.6k miles per year since I’ve owned this NC. Previous NC my average was 4.5k to 5k.
I’ve averaged only 3.7k miles in my daily driver too over the 9 years I’ve owned it.

17,500 in 10 years but I did 7,000 in the first year!

Hadn’t thought about this until now but have had my NC for 6.5 years and covered 65,500 miles - annual avg. 10,000

My ND is 3 years old and covered 17,500 miles - annual avg. 5,800

More miles than I thought

30,000/14 = 2,142 miles

In 8 years of ownership of my NBFL I’ve averaged 2551miles per annum.

Eunos : 147,100kms = 91,400 miles / 30 years = 3,000 miles annual average

ND2 : 20,500 miles / 4.5 years = 4,500 miles annual average

Nearly all of them with a  on my face

Only 2.5k '21-'22, used to do more but since lockdown I’ve been working remotely. Given the amount of stop-start driving and stress it’s better for both me and my car this way and I even get to benefit from lower insurance because I do under a certain amount. The previous owner put a lot of miles on it.

And this is the problem. Do you renew your tyres once every 14 years? Or once every 4 years less than half worn?

Tyres should be replaced at 10 years from manufacturing date, according to Michelin. I’ve read other articles recommending to replace them at 6 years and even between 7 to 10 years old. Seems logical to take an average and say 8.

Obviously if there are any age related signs of wear with the rubber (cracks, flakes) then they should be replaced regardless of age.

Our Citroën tyres were replaced at 8 years, they looked OK but felt it was a good idea to replace them at the same times as the brakes and discs were renewed.

My ND tyres are just over half worn but I will replace them at the next MOT in November (5 years) and may go up to 215 x 45 x 17, either Continental Premium Contact / Michelin Pilot Sport 5 / Michelin Cross Climate 2. Some months to see reviews etc.

I’ve had my Eunos NA for 15 years now. It’s a toy. I love it, and I love owning it. Here’s the but…

On average, I have done 1300 miles a year.

There is definitely pleasure in owning and driving a 30+ year old car. I am also starting to do bits of work on it, which is new to me, although my brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather were all mechanically or engineering minded, I tried, but I failed back then, but starting to pick it up a bit now.

I like the fact that my car has only done around 66000 miles and want to keep it low, but not at the expense of driving enjoyment and joining in with other club outings etc. I’d like to look back at this reply in a few years and see the per annum mileage up to around 2500 miles and still have my NA in its current great condition.

Thanks for making me think about this.

Things to do:
Drive my car more
Mechanic on my car more
