Hi Sam! Yes I always find that the diff casing is a good jacking point. At the front, the middle of the chassis cross member is the recommended jacking point. Obviously you need to be careful you don’t damage the sump and like you do when jacking up the diff casing, you insert a piece of wood betwen the jack cup and the car. Axle stands will be required to keep the whole thing stable.
Have fun.
Having had a oil leak from the diff joint I now jack the rear up on the subframe at the back - it’s lifts slightly off centre, but as I put the back on axle stands then do the front it doesn’t matter.
My car does get jacked up a lot more often than normal though.
I’ve just been doing some sill repair and found the stands were getting in the way all the time.
My dad made up a quick lifting bar/bracket attatchet to the rear tow points. Probably not a reccomended axle stand point, but it was on the main chassis rails and looked pretty beefy. Car didn’t appear to bend at all visually and door still opened/closed fine.
Pictures here if interested.
Mine were in pretty bad shape and took forever to fix, [http://www.phoenixfives.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2854&highlight=] so I’d be interested in some pictures of how you get along (if you don’t mind).
Cheers
Now, that’s ingenious!
