B577 Relay / immobiliser issue

  1. My model of MX-5 is: NA 1996 1.8
  2. I’m based near: Southampton
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: Electrical issues regarding B577 relay underneath the dash.

Hi all, i’m quite new to this group. Bit of a long shot but can anyone shed any light on this wiring that is under my dash above the pedals.

I think a previous owner has tried to bypass an immobiliser with some wiring coming from the main loom, and into a fuse which then goes to the B577 relay.

There was just a fuse dangling inbetween the 2 connectors and barely held into place, causing the car to splutter.

Has anyone got any ideas what “bypass” system this is or any drawings of the original loom please?

Any help will be appreciated.

Kind regards, Elliot

That B577 is the fuel pump relay.
There is not an easy way to bypass the factory temic immobiliser which I can see is fitted to this car.
The immobiliser cannot be bypassed by sidestepping the relay.
When you start your car, the security light, yellow with a key emblem from memory, should come on briefly when the engine fires and then go out after about half a second.
I am guessing that the previous owner may have bypassed a faulty relay? Have you contacted him/her to check?
Quite easy to check the relay and the wiring is reasonable straight forward and colour coded.
I’ve got 1.6 MK1 / Eunos cars here and they use a five wire relay; yours is obviously a 1.8.
The fuse is confusing, unless someone has just tapped in to the relay permanent live to feed something else.

Thats been added ,so not standard ,in which case it can be removed and put right.
