Back to a sporty little number with a drop top top!

Hello Mx5ers!

Well a little back ground information about my past cars to set the scene.

After passing my test and driving around in a rusty old MK1 Fiesta for a couple of years I bought a old and just as  rusty, but far more interesting 1979 Triumph Spitfire.

Rear wheel drive, convertible, twin sports exhaust. Great, cheap fun, the sense of driving something different sparked my enthusiasm for these types of cars.Membership of the Triumph Sport Six Club and cheap spares kept it on the road for a few years before the wielding ritual before each M.O.T wore me down.

Then onto a Honda CRX,  then Honda Civic VTIS. Great fun but front wheel drive. The VTIS was great but I missed those Spitfire days. After much fore thought and finance juggling I managed to purchase a Caterham 7 VX 1600. Flowed the head and added a racing cam that took it up to 150bhp with aeroscreen. Joined the club and took it on track days and club events. It was frightening fast on the public roads and had that unique appeal.

Personal circumstance changed which forced the selling of the 7 and the Honda for something much more practical and economical as I would be doing high mileage. Enter my own personal taxi…a Skoda Octavia1.9 TDI PD.

Roll forward to this weekend.  8 years and 150,000 miles later the Skoda has been sold on. To be truthful, I am sad to see her go as the car was a very economical, dependable work horse. But due to her age and the Mrs having a company car it was time for a replacement…what to get???

Not too much of a difficult decision so settled on a 2013 Sport Tech Nav MX5 MK.3.75 which I pick up,tomorrow

My wife having a company car has let me return to my love of rear wheel drive sports cars and the MX5 is the only choice I have always liked and wanted to own one I also need something reliable, interesting, fun but reasonably economical. I enjoy the fact that these little cars have such a strong following and are a enthusiasts car like my previous Spitfire and Caterham 7.

I’m looking forward to joining the 5er’s

hi and welcome. hope you enjoy

Hope you get some good weather to enjoy top down driving. Brave man to have owned a Caterham !

Welcome

Hello and welcome to miles of fun

Hi and welcome

Welcome

Welcome, for a long time I thought my mid-life crisis car would be a Caterham but after 3 years of MX-5 ownership, I’m sure it gives more smiles per mile!

Thanks for the replies. It’s good to be on board

Picked her up and went for a spin into the countryside for a pub lunch,in the sunshine with Mrs Piper.

Great fun.

Have ordered a load of service items and am planning on changing all the fluids except the coolant as it’s on FL22 at 15,000 miles. Oh  and a pink mx5 hat for Mrs Piper is on order as she spotted it!!!

Plan on keeping her pampered…the Mx5 that is.

Enjoy your car

Morning from Whitstable,
After years of driving company estate cars I remember the thrill of climbing in to my 1.5 sport nav ND. Enjoy your car and give us a WAVE!
