Is the lucky winner on here? This Arizona was just auctioned by Mathewsons, Thornton le Dale, following a major refurb by the ‘Restoration Team’.
I missed that
How much did it make ??
An impressive £9200 + commission
wow
From the listing, a fair amount had been spent on it. The Bangers & Cash Restoration team still made a loss
I saw this in person at Mathewsons and was tempted to bid in the original auction. I almost put my hand through the cill, so decided to pass on it. £9,200 + fees seems an awful lot to pay for a mark 2.5. I’m buying a restored Arizona for £4,000 and I thought that was probably close to the ceiling price for a mark 2.5.
I viewed it before the first auction as well but decided not to bid on it. In the early episodes of the ‘Restoration’ series, the finished articles looked superb and I think that gave people confidence in the cars to bid on them. When they bought a black MGTF, I went up to view when they put it back for auction, thinking it would be a good purchase (it should feature in the current series). Whilst they might have sorted the car mechanically / structurally, the interior was dire, plus holes in the soft top. So pleased I didn’t bid on it blind.
I was also there when the Scimitar GTE (featured in last weeks episode) was up for auction post-restoration. Whilst not as poorly presented as the MGTF above, it was far from concours and let down by some minor stuff.
Was the Arizona parked right up to the fence? It was impossible to look over it properly when I went to view it. I didn’t even bother asking for the keys because I couldn’t look round the bodywork properly. I wonder if they didn’t want anyone else to bid on it so the Bangers and Cash production team could buy it. I asked Mazda Dudes what they had done to it mechanically and they mentioned new brakes, a service and MOT and that was it. Maybe it didn’t need anything else. I don’t know.
I remember the buyer of the Scimitar GTE slightly grumpily saying it needed a few things doing to it, yet the mechanic had a huge snagging list to work through. I don’t think the garages are given a huge amount of time to turn them around. Mazda Dudes seemed to have a deadline of the October auction and they only just managed to get it there on time. Who knows?
Was that at Thornton? I saw it just inside the entrance to the second Pickering building. If you scroll up this thread, the work completed is listed in a screenshot.
When I was looking over the MG I got talking to one of the staff who said they are working to fast turnarounds.
It was at the Thornton-le-Dale site. It was at the back of the site, next to a fence, looking in a slightly sorry state.
Possibly dropped off there and moved later?
Interestingly, it’s on the list for the November auction.
Perhaps the sale didn’t go through.
I noticed that. Perhaps someone realised £9200 was too much to pay.
Made £8000 today.
But is now listed on their site as “not sold”.
As you say…but on the live listing it shows £8000. Perhaps the ‘not sold’ is a remnant from last month.
