Dear all,
My battery seems to last around 3-4 weeks. Then, all of a sudden - I cannot start the engine and keep hearing a clicking type noise. Any ideas? Is this a dud battery or something like an alternator. Thanks
More info really, model, year, where’s it kept, how often is it used and most important how old is the battery?
Sorry. It’s a 59 plate. 37K mileage. Kept on the drive. Think that this may well be the original battery
Original batteries are Panasonic, so it’s done well if it is.
A battery/alternator tester is ideal in this case but do check your connections to the battery are clean and tight.
If in doubt take it to garage to test the battery.
I bought this to test my battery/alternator condition…
If it is the original, then I expect it has reached end of life. My NC’s original Panasonic died after about ten years and about 30k miles. Yuasa YBX5053 is a perfect fit in my 2008 NC.
As MickAP suggests, check it with a battery tester. You’ll probably need a helper to make the best use of it, one of you with the meter by the battery the other inside the car operating controls.
I recently acquired this one that works very well. As well as on our own two, it gave the expected results on four of our neighbour’s cars. Three were happy their battery was OK, the one less happy I gave a lift to Halfords for an exchange where they confirmed his was nearly dead.
Even when my NC and ND were new the batteries would often fail to start the car if it had been unused for 3 or 4 weeks. I had similar troubles with a new Toyota GT86 but at least Toyota eventually replaced my battery with a higher capacity battery FOC. Seems to be a fairly common problem with Japanese cars, perhaps the security systems rapidly drain the battery when left standing for an extended period.
My ND2 battery will be flat in 3 or so weeks. When parked at home, I turn off the internal sensors (bottom key button). I also attach a 12v solar panel if I’m going to be using my Eunos or regular car.
It’s safe where I live to have this propped up on the windscreen or rear roof, but it will still work if propped up against the windscreen inside the car, but not as efficient.
Fair chance, if these batteries are allowed to flatten at all, they never recover fully, or hold the required amps again and no amount of post flat “conditioning” will help. Some are worse than others but gel mats in particular need molly coddled more.
You owe me ÂŁ17.99!!!
Why o why do people keep showing me things I never knew I needed? Very very annoying and frustrating!!
It works well though, tells if a battery is duff. My Panasonic started the car ok but I knew by the way it started (slightly different but alway first turn of key) something was up! Even fully charged it wouldn’t hold it for long.
How is the ND model collection going Malc?
Must be a good few caught up you do not have yet.
I had battery drain Mk3 2008
I tested the circuits and found that that the circuit Fuse No 6 was the problem. Upon removal the drain ceased - but the fault was probably (amongst other things) with the central locking probably caused by water ingress. I’ve been away from home for 3 months but will get it sorted by an auto electrician when I return. Hopefully.
I have the following,
Matchbox 2017 grey, 2020 orange, 2021 black, 2022 white, different 2022 white and 2023 red.
Hot Wheels 2016 red, 2017 yellow, 2017 blue, 2018 white, 2018 blue, 2019 blue, 2021 red, 2021 grey, and 2023 mat black.
My illness continues unabated!!
