Battery question

  1. My model of MX-5 is: __NB
  2. I’m based near: __Swansea
  3. I’m looking for technical help or recommendations on: __Replacement battery
Put my battery on charge overnight last week as I’m only doing short journeys at the moment and am fed up of having to use my power pack to start it.
The engine didn’t turn over but its fine on the power pack,so I guess its time for a new battery. Any recommendations for a replacement type or can I use one off the shelf at Halfords or a motor factor?
    Cheers

My recommendation would be this one…

Assuming no one has messed with the car previously, then it’ll fit well and last ages. If you have the facility, probably worth treating yourself to a battery monitor too.

This as an example, others are available.

Try Tayna, excellent branded batteries, quick delivery and a lot cheaper than Halfords. I have had several from them over the years.
Just check the actual size of yours including terminals with what is recommended. When I spoke to them for my MX5 they said there are so many variables they are one of the more difficult cars to spec correctly from just the registration number so always best to do a physical check.

Thanks for your quick responses. As mentioned in a previous thread elsewhere,I’m expecting a large bill on my transit in the new year,so funds are tight. I’ve been recommended a 063 type, but its bigger than the 053 currently in the car, although I’ve been told it will fit. Is there any advantage of the gel type?

That’s the ultimate question, plenty of discussion on it on this forum… If I was buying a battery correct fitment would be top of my list, above brand or type.

OK. Thanks

When changing the battery, do you need the radio code?
I want to changed mine in my NB (label is written in japanese so I suspect it’s still from factory?!) but I’m worried about the radio code, as I don’t have it!

What sort of radio is it?

Standard radio mk2.5 with the CD changer and tape.

Like that in the link

If it’s coded the Disc in light flashes when it’s off I think. They don’t come coded from the factory, owners can put their own code in them. If you’ve got an Owner’s Manual follow the instructions to put your own code in, if you can you’ll know the code.

Thanks @Roadster_Robbie
I’ll check that procedure.

I’ve been ‘afraid’ of a complete discharge of the battery because of that for months!
