Genuine Mazda Panasonic AGM battery. Assuming all the mounts haven’t been messed up to take a bigger one. But even if they have, I’d look at putting it back to “factory”.
Depends on how much you want to spend. Without a doubt an OEM Mazda battery is going to be the best. Failing that, any 51R sized AGM battery will fit and work(always aim for the highest cranking amps you can find in that size…the battery is a long distance from the starter after all). Here in the states a good battery that fits those specs costs about £150-£200
Now, lets talk cheap: I am currently running a lawnmower battery. Total cost as about £50(£40 for the battery and another £10 for the terminal adapters) and its not AGM, but it puts out more cranking amps than my AGM and fits fine physically. To make it work though…you should have a post conversion kit(lawnmower batteries come with flat terminals….in a pinch you could side-bolt the factory terminals to flat terminals in a pinch, but its not really a great connection. The other thing to keep in mind using a lawnmower battery is that the vents for the battery are square-ish, not round like the 51R, so you have to fool around to make the vent hoses work. Personally I recommend for most people to just use a 51R AGM battery, but if you don’t mind a bit more work, a lawnmower battery does the trick fine and saves you quite a bit….just make sure you get those vent hoses connected if you go that route…if you don’t connect the vent hoses it vents to the boot and will accelerate rust issues in that area.
