BBR Conversions - Balding Blokes Revitalised?

Bothered, not Bothered.

what he said!!!

I’m not bald but losing my hair fast after having the stage 2 turbo done, every time I turn the key I still grin

LOL I pretty much meet all the above I have also stalked BBR online seriously thinking of heading there for test drive before I track it next year. 200 or stage one dilemma

My quandary exactly.

It’s a lot of money to splash out, so do I take the ‘cautious’ approach with the Super 200 (which seems to have very many happy purchasers) and always wonder what it would have been like if I’d have gone for the Stage 1 or the the more ‘frivolous’ route going for the Stage 1 but possibly finding myself scared sh*tless and ‘over powered’ wishing I’d not ‘wasted’ the extra few grand?

I’m guessing only an extended period of driving both side by side would answer this for me and I’m not in a position to do both

I spoke to a chap at a meet one day and he had done the 180 stage and loved it, so you could be right about that!

Sometimes its best to resist the temptation and go softly softly on the theme. At least you would know what would be best for you and the car.

I’ve gone and done it. BBR Super 200 plus Koni suspension.  Great service from the guys at BBR.

Drives great… and a bonus. It’s improved the mpg!

Expected a shock and a need to find a specialist insurer when I contacted my Aviva Multicar insurance. But no. Gave them the details of the upgrad. They asked about the increase in bHP, and the lowering. I waited with baited breath while they spoke to the underwriter.

“Your premium will need to go up”’, they said.

“How much?”, said I.

£12. (sic)

0ne happy BBR owner!

Note… full head of hair, no cords.

Hi keefyp

Can you do me a favour and measure the distance from the wheel centre to the bottom of the wheelarch lip front and rear?  I want to know how much the BBR suspension lowers the car before I commit, as I’m concerned over ground clearance.

thanks

Dave

hoping to follow suit sometime next year

Dave

34.5 cm

It’'s not a bone shaker, and it goes over speed humps OK.

By comparison, my son has just put coilovers on his Audi A1… 31cm. And he turned round yesterday half way down one of our local speed hump strewn roads!

Keefyp

Thanks for that.  I’ve just measured mine and it looks like it lowers it about 25mm, so think I should be ok.  I drove BBR’s stage 1.5 turbo with their suspension about a year ago, and the suspension was pretty compliant especially given it was lowered.  I find the standard suspension quite crashy.

Dave

Lol at this topic!

Belly? Guilty of that at least!

So near and yet so far…

It was good news and bad news.  We were going to be travelling up from Devon to Banbury, tantalisingly close to Brackley and the BBR HQ.  The bad news was that it was for a family funeral. Not even in my wildest machinations could I justify a little excursion up the road to pop into BBR and have an exploratory chat.  However, all was not lost.  I used to live in the area in my School days and under the guise of a little sight seeing tour, we drove through Brackley where I was able, (totally naturally of course) to impart the knowledge that “One of the UK’s best MX5 ‘Garages’ is based in Brackley you know…”  From little acorns and all of that.

I just bit the bullet and booked mine in for a 200, meet most of the criteria balding etc

I also finally bit the bullet yesterday and ordered a stage 2 for DIY fitting, having fitted the Koni suspension just over a month ago.  300bhp should be fun ??.

Check the BBR site  Not cheap but worth every penny… it’s a blast on the road and on track days.

Upgraded the brakes since then!
