BBR Super 200 insurance

Presently I am insured by Nationwide/LV who unequivocally assured me that they wouldn’t touch a modified car. However Greenlight insurance brokers in Brentwood  (Will Fraser) conformed a quote that beats the existing non-modified  quote with Nationwide/LV.  So who are the underwriters? A Maltese or Gibralter company that some specialist brokers offer? NO,the underwriters for my modified Mk 3.5 are…Liverpool Victoria!!!

How crazy is that!!!

Pretty much so, never underestimate the ability of the insurance industry to be obtuse

Says it all about the vehicle insurance industry really; a complete racket.

Thanks for the tip, though, as I’m thinking about the same upgrade and my current insurers, Direct Line, will only cover mods that increase power by up to 20 per cent. Very polite about it and stressed that there would be no admin cost for cancellation if I had to go with another insurer.

I am just happy that I dont have to deal with Adrian Flux or A Plan whose underwriters are not LLoyds of London…and I should bet my beastie back by the weekend too as my Mazda dealership is BBR approved to to the work. Next year I will have it resprayed something inappropriately funky, maybe,
lol

You mean that highly competitive & diverse industry, that make small profit margins and yet offers you total indemnity against even multi-million pound liability claims, for a few hundred pounds?

I don’t work in insurance any more. but I object to this idea that it’s a ripoff. If it was easy money then people like Richard Branson would be walking all over it.

Most motor insurers lose money on initial cover and the overall profit margin for large insurers is usually under 10%.

I’m slightly puzzled by the A Plan comment, my very modified 5 is insured through them, the company they chose is underwritten at Lloyds

Steve, the spec policy they sent me a week ago was underwritten by Markerstudy PCNS based in Gibralter. Perhaps their differing offices are a little inconsistent when dealing with customers?!
I am a little sensitive to insurance policies having spent a large part ofy life as a solicitor so double checked this info…uberrimae fidei etc

Thats interesting, I was insured with LV, my NC being lowered with eibachs as well. As soon as I mentioned 200 Bhp modification they said they wouldnt insure me. So its Greenlight for me now. Or is that LV Undecided

Some companies don’t mind mods but will only cover up to 2, maybe 3, mods so the Super 200, fire instance,  could be the one that takes you over their limit.

I found very few that will do Forced Induction cover. A is one of the few.  Some won’t cover your spouse if they haven’t driven a FI mx5 for a year … that they own!

“usually under 10%” of how many billions of pounds?

poor charitable insurers are always going out of business due to lack of profits

Never defend banks or insurers, they are not your friends!

Abusing Mr Branson like that does little to support your case

In truth who out there isn’t out to make a profit. It’s just a matter of percentages. I spent many years as a solicitor and detested and still do the attitude of many,of profit over service. However moaning about service industries is a little distastful and my original post was intended to help and not be negative about insurers or brokers

I am having the Super 200 kit fitted next week, I am currently insured with Esure so was preparing to have to change insurance as I thought they would not cover a modified car.

I was very surprised that they would and the increased premium was not that bad, obviously I am now too old to be classed as a girl racer!!

In my experience as said above LV will take some modifications but most engine ones is a big no no. Suspension lowering is not a problem though.

Admiral told me that up to 25% power increase is okay, £46 extra but the Super 200 delivers a bit more and Admiral would decline insurance.

Perhaps they could alter the mapping for less bhp and more torque.

I cant see them being happy altering there Super200 kit to NOT meet the 200bhp you buy into…

Perhaps it would be best to go for there Super180 kit instead

Yes. I think that’s probably what I will be looking at, should still feel the improvement.

Well I went Super180 before I went back for the 200 kit,

the Super180 is still a GREAT improvement over standard and WELL worth the upgrade…

Cannot see anything about that on Blinks website?

I would be interested to hear how you get on, currently the BBR 180 is the favourite, I looked at Roddisons but their centre exhaust section looks like a lash up on their web page. BBR looks very good quality and professional which is probably why the cost is more.

Looked at one other company but that was not road legal.
