hi. i have an nc with bbr 180. thinking of upgrading to 200. can anyone tell me what 0 - 60 figure is ? I know its not the most important thing but I’d like a bit more punch . if its not that significant then I won’t bother as my super 180 is heaps of fun.
Don t forget these blob chart showroom willy waving 0-60 figures are invariably achieved by dropping the clutch at mid to high revs and leaving black lines. In short, they both mean and prove very little. What are important if it means anything is the in gear ratios from 10mph to 60 using 2nd & 3rd…using torque as well as revs.
My new puny little engined 1400cc Swift Sport is without doubt quicker by far than either my Monza 3 litre or my long gone Capri 2.8i for 2 reasons… gobs of turbo torque, leccy hybrid, and lightness. I’m assured by the Club OC guys it will do 0-60 in under 7 seconds but Ive no interest in abusing an expensive new car’s clutch or transmission. As you say yours is heaps of fun but much more useable heaps per ££ will you get on today’s Big Brother State Policed & elapsed camera roads will you get?
The Super 200 is actually a little less midrange torque than your 180 kit due to the cams…
Is it faster ?? well yes, yes it is (although only just) and the extra power is all at the top of the rev range so depending on how you drive depends if you will really benefit from the 200kit…
If you are just driving on the road and not racing it I wouldn’t bother with the extra expense. I had my ND 2.0 litre modified to the BBR Super 220 spec with cams etc. To be honest, to really feel the difference you had to rag it to beyond 7,000 rpm and up to 7,800 rpm and with that came a host of reliability issues that ended up with me having to sell the car at a great loss.
Here’s my view as i have a 2012 BBR 200. I bought it with the mods on so don’t know what it was like before. The cams push the power much higher up the rev range and when you are on it flies and sounds great.
However I’ve been on 2 of Nick Parrots fab CompletelyDriven MX5 Tours and while either being chased or chasing standard 1.8L, 2L, modified 1.8L, BBR200 or a BBR225 on winding UK roads there is nothing in it until you really push on and rev to the limiter (Nicks turbo is in a different league).
Knowing this, for the road, If I were making the changes I would either stick with180 to get a bit more power, great sounds but no loss of low down and a lot cheaper than a 200.
Or
Turbo/supercharged much faster all round but a lot more £££
cool. some really useful comments, thanks so much
one other thing…bbr recon I’d get alot better handling if i upgraded to there koni set up…i only want it for the road and canining it round b roads etc…if feel it does dip a little halfway into a bend ( could be my lack of expertise)…howevere i totally appreciate its cruising comfort…your views please
This thread might be of interest: Loving the NC but
There are one or two other NC suspension threads in that section as well.
thanks
Mine came with the bbr koni setup but were knackered after 20k, bottoming out lots, so replaced with Meister R’s much better.
