BBR Super 200 or 225

Out of interest, how much have those that have had the conversions done, paying for insurance?

I’ve just asked my company to let me know what an extra 20bhp and 40bhp would be on my premium and I’m awaiting a response.

I’ve no idea what to expect.

How have others fared?

Just had my answer:

For both figures, an increase of…

£7.82

Paid very little extra on my insurance for an extra 20bhp remap. Can’t really say exactly as I changed car too which already had the power upgrade, around £20 I’d guess. Autotronix tune, manifold changed and a different back box, lowered suspension were the mods declared.

I’ve recently installed the BBR ITBs and my insurance has actually gone down!

Who’s your insurer?

Imho (and i know we have at least a representative in this forum) all insurances use similar computer algorithms that spit out a number based on your inputs. So what number is spit out for person A does not necessarily represent the same number will be for person B

Unfortunately I found all insurance companies are somewhat the same, easy to get your cash but when its time to pay they will find all the t&c (that you have not read when you took the insurance) to come off sparkling clean.

After a theft at my property now all the t&c are read and personally I prefer calling specialist insurance company that often have better access to deals you can’t get over the phone with “normal” agents

When I got my ND, I was originally planning to go BBR200, but knew if I did that, I would be going back in mths to get the rest done - so I went straight for BBR220

I love it. I was keen to retain original NA character, whilst giving it a little more midrange ooomph and better soundtrack. It does all of that. Still retains all the stock manners you would expect, in fact when in slow moving traffic, you wouldn’t know it wasn’t stock. But once you are pressing on, the torque comes in lower and the midrange is transformed. Worth every penny IMO.

I understand your reasons but prices are slightly different…the ND Super 200 is 1500 quid, the ND Super 220 is 2700. The NC Super 200 is 2200, the NC Super 225 is 4500. So the Super 220 on the ND is only slightly more expensive than the NC Super 200 and getting the NC Super 225 almost buys you the ND Super 220 for two cars.

Obviously power wise they are almost the same but on the NC you’ll have ITB’s - which is insanely awesome. But also a price tag you have to take into consideration.

Hi,
What year and mileage?
2009 onwards, 2.0 was bloody strong with a forged steel bottom end.
If it was serviced regularly, it’ll enjoy anything you do to let it go and perform, but youre better off getting it to handle better first.
If youve got the dosh, once the handlings sorted (including wheels and tyres), then go for the 225.

You’re quoting prices for the ND2 which has 180 bhp, and not the ND.

The Super 200 for the ND2 is similar to the Super 180 for the NC, and the Super 220 for the ND2 is similar to the Super 200 for the NC.

My vote - 225 if you can afford it.

2 reasons, one of human nature and one of useable torque at lower revs.

Human nature - I have the 200 (bought the car with it), if your of the compulsion to get more power out of your MX5, and then you get the 200 (which is very good by the way!), if your anything like me your mind will still turn to the 225 after a while as you know its there - there’s still more you can have whilst staying N/A! If you then choose to upgrade again, more money.

Useable torque at lower revs - looking at the dyno curves, yes it does provide a higher peak HP at max revs, but it also raises both the power and torque across the curve, meaning that you will have more “enjoyable power” at lower revs as well.

Also it will sound nicer and look special! :stuck_out_tongue:

And sadly, no I cant afford it for mine!!

But whatever you go for, you will enjoy it

Ah, you’re right

@MikeC83 Hi Mike and all,

Been browsing the forums thinking about the NC 225 vs 200 upgrades and seem to be going through a very similiar trail of thought to yourself a year ago.

Was just curious if you went through with either package in the end?

Would appreciate thoughts from any other BBR 200 or 225 owners out there…

Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,

I still haven’t done anything yet but only because I need to put the cash together.

I think I’m more likely to end up with the 200 due to price but I would really fancy the 225. The big difference is the noise and I’ve heard a few comments that the ITBs are seriously loud and can be too much but that seems to be where it’s driven daily. As I don’t daily the car I’m still left as tempted but I suspect it will more likely be a separate step up for a 200 upgrade first
