BBS Centre Cap Theft?

Hello all, I have a Eunos S-Special II and sadly when I bought it, it did not come with the original BBS alloys. After a lot of patience and searching, I now have the correct alloys for the car, but I had to buy the centre caps separately, and I’m sure many of you know how pricey they are!

My fear is that when the alloys (with the centre caps) are fitted to the car, the caps will simply attract thieves and they’ll be nicked before you can say Zoom Zoom. Has anyone else got BBS alloys, what’s your experience. I’ve had one or two people suggest removing the caps whenever the car is parked away from home, but that seems like a faff, plus, what’s the point of having the centre caps if they’re going to spend half their life off the car?

Thanks in advance, Aaron

In 17 years, no one has touch my BBS centre caps. I suspect if you spend a lot of time taking them on/off, you will be more likely to lose one because you didn’t refit it correctly, and it falls off.

My S-Special also came without its BBS wheels when I bought it. However, an opportunity arose to get some similar BBS alloys off a Golf GT. These are 15" and don’t need center caps, so no worries. Might not be approved of by the purists, but they look the part.

My Z-Sport has BBS alloys and in four years on my drive all ok. Think I would be more worried about the alloys being nicked at a retail of £850 each…if you can find any.

Good to hear NM1, but doesn’t help me much

Thankfully I didn’t pay that much for them! They need a refurb, though.

Excuse for some photos. The only time I lost a centre cap was at Curborough, when one fell off (and retrieved 30 foot from the track)

They are Marks & Spencer BBS alloys and rare as stray vegan Velociraptor wandering around Oxford Street.
Pinch them…it’s like sending an email to the world.

I bought some BBS centre caps and spanner a few years ago very cheap including the shipping.
I got five for the price of one in the UK all the way from Yahoo Japan. ( one off a BMW in the box )
I hardly ever leave my car on the street away from home so far I have been lucky not to lose any caps.

I actually think most BBS caps that go missing, go missing because they fall off, rather than being taken.

But you could do this, and lose the allen key when you need to change the wheel on a cold, wet night.

I’ve got BBS and have never had any issues, but then again I’ve only had the mx5 since last august

I had a NA Eunos S-Ltd on the gold 14" BBS wheels.
A centre cap went missing on the way home from work but AFTER I’d had the car through my local hand washing crew.

Accidentally rotated and dislodged I’m sure but a lesson learned

Hence you need the correct tool. Fitted correctly, the cap won’t come off, even at the local handwash.

Have you seen how much the genuine BBS spanner costs!!
Perhaps a potential thief may be put off by that.
Tempting to personalise the wheel centres, perhaps with an etched signature, registration number or similar to deter theft.

Paul Rainer (mx5roadster) was making copies of the BBS spanner, but I’m not sure what happened to him

There are various Mazda compatible “BBS wrenches” on sale for £10-15, genuine one is £50.

Sad to say, but if there are thieves for these, they are MX5 owners.

Yes, a 21st century solution to this would be cheap replica 3D printed BBS wheel centres.
