BBS Refurb

Not sure if this is classed as a mod or a resto  but got the first photos of my refurbed 15” BBSs today, just the centre caps left to do apparently… And fit the tyres obviously (yes, they are Bridgestone… so shoot me :grimacing:)

15” ? I was watching a video of the original Elan https://youtu.be/FeYvA-bXH_w?si=t5ldcl67vXXli4Ln .

They are known for handling without spinal surgery.

Yes. OE fitment to many an MX-5.

Goto say the 17’s look better but I drive my car more than I look at it.
I’d be happy with 15” as that’s another inch of rubber for comfort and, if the Elan is anything to go by your not giving away anything to handling.
I’ve been looking at replacing the NC hubs with other hubs just to get the much greater choice with the four stud. Is this an option?

Sorry, I’ve no idea.

It was probably a too expensive option anyway. Those wheels look the business👍

Interesting to see how the centre caps will come out. My BBS wheels are manky, but the centre caps are worse, with the brushed finish worn off the “bolts”… But then, I doubt I will ever get around to doing this along with a long list of other jobs for a car thats increasingly less and less used.

Hello Beryl,

@Roadster_Robbie wheels are for a mk1. Mine has the original daisy wheels which are 14 inch or some models had 15inch.

The NC is a different wheel pattern and the standard was 5 stud with either 16 or 17 inch wheels.

They look mint!! Shame to put them back on the car really

Make sure you do at least 2 coats of wheel wax and get into all those fiddly bits as well.

See:

For wheel fitments.

I am very surprised when you say there is a limited range of aftermarket wheels for the NC model.

There are literally hundreds of designs from just one vendor.

If you actually want BBS and have deep pockets, they are obviously available

I am, by nature a cheapskate so other wheels, unless mine are stolen, I see as an indulgence. So I was posting as if my sole source is Facebook Marketplace ie pre-loved.
Should have made myself clearer….

Loads of scrapyard RX7 FD/RX8/Evo VII around.

You weren’t sounding much of a cheapskate when considering a bodged 4x100 hub conversion so you could fit a wheel that has no chance of clearing your brakes.

Problem is, looking at used aftermarket RX7 wheels, you are having to deal with the scammers coming out of the woodwork selling powdercoated welded 30 year old wheels, for which you are expected to pay the JDM tax

It was just an option that occurred to me that I threw out for comments. I’m a newby just looking for advise. Aren’t you getting a bit aggressive?

They are not doing the centre lock “bolts” (nuts?), they are doing the metal part to match the wheels though. I’ll either rattle can the nuts (although my patience doesn’t usually stretch to painting stuff well) so will probably approach a smart repair company.

They look awesome, who has done that for you? I need more works wheels doing

Found these, for £15 for 4 worth a punt I reckon…

Well, that was probably the best £15 I’ve ever spent!

The hole in the centre for the badge is a little bit too big so I’ll apply some sticky for peace of mind, but otherwise, I can’t complain.

Mansoury glue.

We all deserve a nice bargain every so often: Robbie more than most as he sorted out my Speedo going mental way back when I first joined. Hell of a cleaning problem though😀
