Thanks for the information. Is there a part number cast on the reverse of the wheel?
Found nothing in my research which says the UK BBS alloys (either one) are forged, like they do say on US versions.
Still ain’t convinced that they are forged on the launch edition, which (forged) apparently can clear Brembos…which the launch don’t have. And which ones are on Z-sport, 2018 special edition? No brembos on that either. And on the Homura with Brembos? Where in the literature does it say they’re forged.
Also, how about the GT Sport Tech. No Brembos. WHich BBS version are on that one too?
Nice one.
So could the non-forged ones be on the Z Sport and/or Gt Sport Tech? Seems a lottery
Correct look at the wheels on a z sport they are subtly different spoke pattern that does not “bow” outward as far… also in my opinion not as nice generally
Yes, I agree. I ‘reckon’ those are those others ones described above, the £grand for 4 ones. You’re right, they do look different
Whereas the GT Sport Tech look like the forged expensive ones:
Every day’s a school day. You’ve been a great help with your shared knowledge. I never would have though t there was a difference
No prob It’s explained also by my fellow RF launch owner Ian earlier in this thread with side by side of the two wheels, it’s more clearly shown in his post tbf
As noted earlier Mazda dealers sell the forged wheels for £669 incl VAT. You can get 15% off at some dealers with owners club discount (check back of magazine) Therefore they are not £1k per wheel but still painfully expensive.
However this price does not include the wheel cap and nuts so add some more on top if you need those as well!
I recently saw a written off RF launch being scrapped for parts on eBay and the seller sold the used set of 4 on a 30,000 mile car for £1375
Yes, those codes all tally with mine except for the stamped code which may be a factory batch number.
So the next question is how much are you asking for them and also, whereabouts in the country are you?
If you prefer, you can pm me.
Thank you!! I spent ages trying to find actually pictures of the two and couldn’t
And yes, as you have stated, the Z-Sport came with the NA1V-V3-810 wheels
The Launch Edition and 2024+ Homura come with the 9965 98 7070 wheels
I believe the 9965 98 7070 wheels clear Brembos but the NA1V-V3-810 wheels don’t
Was that the red Launch Edition with the staved in rear?
Pretty sure I saw the whole car listed for ~£4k and it disappeared VERY quickly
The Recaro seats at ~£4.5k a seat from Mazda last I checked so between the wheels and the seats it was a steal at the price the car was listed for
Possible - it’s still listed online but I know seats, mats and wheels have all gone. I was keen to get a spare set of special edition mats
Sad to see but on plus side one less special edition so I guess we own one of 499 now!
I have the same wheels on my '21GT Sport Tech. I picked up a couple of minor scuffs and after a fruitless search for the paint code, I tried touching up with some Mazda Brilliant Black I had from my previous RX-8. Results were quit good, not a perfect match but you would almost have to get on your hand and knees to notice the miss match.
Thanks to Covid, and ■■■■ weather, I have been unable to move the car out of the garage to check the colour match and take some photos until today.
I am really pleased to report that an excellent colour match has been achieved!
Thanks to The Wheel Specialists in Garforth, Leeds for doing a great job! The swatch they used for the match was b9-01168.500. They are a franchise operation & have a number of operators throughout the country. They also offer a 15% discount for MX5 OC members, the discount code is listed in STHT magazine.
Great result, and good to know you’ve a place who can do it, if ever needed again.
There’s one of those outlets not too far from me.
Nice work and thanks for the code, out of interest does the colour still include the grey flecks in the gunmetal?
Yes it does. I would say that the metallic flecks in the paint are marginally larger than those in the original but you would have to look very closely to notice a difference. The overall effect is a really good match.
BBS have recently filed for insolvency so might be tricky to get new or replacement matching alloys in the future.
