BBS wheel model numbers & colour codes?

There are several codes on the BBS wheels fitted to the 2024 Homura but I am unsure what they mean or which one is the model number and colour code. Can anyone decipher the information for me please?

So there are two different versions of the BBS wheels fitted by Mazda:

You have the same ones I have (came on my 2017 ND RF Launch Edition) with the following:

I believe the information is:

  • DOT = ? (Maybe Department of Transport approved)
  • JP = ? (Maybe country of manufacture being Japan)
  • Mazda Logo = Fairly self explanatory
  • 9965 98 7070 = Mazda Part Number as shown in first image
  • 17x7J 45 = Wheel Size (17" Diameter and 7" Wide with a +45mm Offset)
  • MA001 = ?
  • K2417 = ?
  • ND = ? (Maybe a reference to the chassis)
  • 6627 = ? (Maybe batch number, only aspect that differs between our wheels)
  • J = ?

Hope this helps, how come you are asking?

This is what comes up if you are looking for touch up paint:

But like the Rays on the 30th it appears to be US only

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate it. Unfortunately, I have a slight graze on the rim of the offside front. We were in Northern Spain and entered some roadworks where they were resurfacing the lh side. There was a mini digger scooping tarmac from a tipper truck & I was so concerned about it being dumped on the car, I gave it a wide berth but in doing so caught the rh kerb because I was concentrating so much on avoiding the mini digger. Because the colour may be difficult to match, I am trying to find out the exact RAL or other code for the best chance. I have contacted Mazda UK who have no information & I am awaiting a reply from BBS. From initial research, a replacement wheel is likely to be £1000+ !!

You are welcome
I am pretty sure they shouldn’t be that much for a single wheel!
Have you contacted Mazda Parts (local dealer might have a Parts department) about sourcing a replacement?

When I have searched the Mazda part number, only wheels from US dealers are available priced at $1000+ then shipping on top + import duty + vat. No UK sources including MX5 parts show that are available.

That is crazy, I could have understood that for a set but not for a single wheel!

Of course that’s the NA1V-V3-810 ‘version’.
I’d check with Mazda for the price of the other version. Can’t see it being much different.
If it were, and something silly like £1,000 a wheel, I’d just get FOUR! of the above NA1V-V3-810 ones for the same price!

The forged BBS wheel is far more expensive and made in Japan.

The cheaper one is a different design with fatter spokes, not forged, does not clear the Brembo caliper and is made in Germany, it was offered in the UK as a lookalike option.

……and the Homura has Brembo calipers on the front.

But Ian’s post above said that he has the 9965-98-7070 ones, but the RF launch which don’t have the Brembos? And it’s a ‘European’ car.

Also, would it be right in presuming the Z sport, which don’t have Brembos, may well have the ‘cheaper’ non -Brembo clearing ones?

And given the Homura (last and latest versions) HAS front Bermbos, will they have the forged 9965-98-7070 ones? But I haven’t seen any UK specs which say the BBS wheels on the Homura (or any for ND with BBS alloys that matter) are forged, which I would imagine they would have advertised if they were, as it’s a good selling point for enthusiasts.

As for the colour I’ve seen it variously described as both black and dark gunmetal. I’m not sure it has a colour code but would be interesting to share if you get a response from BBS in Japan.

How bad is the graze is it down to the bare metal?

These are the ones fitted to the Homura.

Yes, bare alloy showing but not gouged, just distressed. I think it can definitely be repaired, it’s just whether or not the colour can be matched exactly.

Sure thing! The codes on BBS wheels typically indicate specific information about the wheel model and color. Usually, the model number is identified separately from the color code. It might be best to check the manufacturer’s documentation or contact BBS directly for precise decoding of the codes on your Homura wheels. They can provide accurate details to ensure you have the right information. Good luck!

I’d ring your dealer.

I contacted Mazda UK directly and they stated that they don’t have the colour codes for BBS wheels!

I’m not surprised. I’ve NEVER ever got a colour code for any alloy I’ve ever had on any car.

I actually went once to a recommended ‘paint mixer’, and he said you can’t get a large, flat surface on an alloy to use a colour spectrometer, like you can on a main body, car panel.

I meant contacting the dealer with regard to a price of an alloy

I seriously thought those BBS alloys were a £grand for 4.
Make me seriously think twice of getting the Homura if I ever replaced mine. A grand a wheel is paranoia city, esp come tyre fitting time, if ‘fitted’ by some muppet. I mean, the ‘usual’ £250 or so a wheel is stomachable, but a grand a wheel if something goes wrong is silly money.
I’ve got another car with ~ £700 a wheel alloys and I thought that was bad enough.

Hi there, I have these wheels on launch edition. Neither BBS or Mazda will provide you with a colour code I haven’t yet needed to touch mine thankfully but I did try to find a kit just in case and had no luck.

The wheels are available from Mazda and are £669 incl VAT PER WHEEL. You can get 15% off parts at some dealers as part of the owners club so that helps but still expensive.

I am considering selling all 4 alloys on my car , Approx 17500 miles no kerbing so if that’s of interest let me know.

That’s interesting, do you have the Brembo calipers fitted as well?

I do not have Brembo a fitted but understand these particular wheels support the brembo out the box, no need for other mods as the wheels clear the callipers. Also note that the club version which has been an available option in US for many years included these alloys and Brembo as standard long before U.K

Also I dug out email from Mazda when I asked them for the colour
