Bedford Area 'informal' Saturday meet ups?

We spend a couple of saturday mornings a month polishing, and enjoying our MX5’s. Then off out for a hoon around the Cardington Hangers area. It would be really great to meet up with other MX5’s for a cuppa, fiddle with cars, and/or a drive out on a Saturday. We see a lot of other MX5’s around Kempston & Bedford, we’ve a nice secure car park for a few other MX5’ds and a pot of coffeee/tea on the go. If anyone else fancies an informal saturday meet up then drop us a line. Cool

 Hi Mark

Why not come along to the Milton Keynes area meeting on Wednesday, 5th September at the Caldecotte Arms just off the A5 at Milton Keynes. You may know it better as being the pub with the White Windmill and Premier Inn.

We normally start at around 7.00pm with some tyre kicking in the top car park and then update on events etc at around 8.00pm.

Some of us eat there and others drop in for a drink, you will be most welcombe.

Hope to see you there.

Brian

Hi Brian,

It’s Mark & Tracey - we have come to the meets in a Mk2 blue “Rufus” (and we loved the treasure hunt). Work commitments meant we’ve not been able to make the last couple of meetings but we will be back asap - especially as Tracey is now the proud owner of a little red mk1 Eunos. Not wanting to tread on anyones toes just thought an informal saturday meet might be fun so we posted the idea here. Will see you all at Caldecotte again soon, hopefully October. Smile

Hello

I live in nearby Thurleigh and am interested in your offer; can visitors explore the performance limits of their MX5s at Cardington? I want to do this and have investigated the nearby Bedford Autodrome can not buy insurance at a resonable price.

Nick

What is at Cardington other than Airship Sheds ?

Eh? Am i on planet daft? I am at a loss as to the lack of response then somewhat baffling comments that are posted to this old thread.

Cardington area = Country roads for hooning. Country pubs for refreshment and socialising. However given the lack of response we’ll carry on by ourselves.

I do have to ask what is the point of paying to join the MX5 owners club. I couldn’t give a flying feck with it.

How many people on here are from around the Bedford area? I’v seen a few roadsters around here. I have just moved here last month and looking to meet local 5 owners…

Would definitely be interested in a meet. I have lots of questions!

cheers

If it wasn’t for the Owners Club, this forum would not existHuh?

That’s not really a point is it? So many MX5 owners and so much apathy from them. Anyway, good luck with it. Rolling eyes

Good luck to you guys too, I don’t care how many groups of owners get together either within the club or outside it, it’s all about enjoying the car

As far as apathy is concerned, I didn’t see much evidence at the national at Prescott, maybe a 1000 cars with their owners all enjoying a great OC event. Yes a few moans about judging the concours, but the rest was another huge success for the club.

Most people would agree that you only get something out of being a member of the club if you are prepared to put something in and that might be just turning up for an event. Hopefully you will return because you enjoyed the experience.

Apathy has no part to play in being a club member if you want to have fun with your MX5 and socialise. The MX5 Owners Club is only what the members make of it and the MK Area is growing because of its active members.

The MK area has grown in leaps and bounds over the last year and has held social, motorsport and lunch run events throughout the year and has finished off with a brilliant Christmas Dinner and Disco party last weekend that over 50 members attended and eveyone who went thoroughly enjoyed and can’t wait until next year for the next one.

The Event Calendar for 2013 is coming together with plenty for everyone and there is still room for Evening / Lunch runs to be fitted into the calendar for anyone that would like to organise an event. Is there anyone out there that can give a technical talk on servicing or general refurbishment of your 5?

Regular monthly meet at the Caldecotte Arms, Caldecotte, Milton Keynes, normally every 1st Wednesday in the month starting at 19.00, except for January 2013, when it will be on the 9th January. Sign up on the MX5 OC Milton Keynes Area Facebook page for regular news on what is coming up.

Without wishing to appear rude we came along a couple of times and for a run out, didn’t really seem to be remembered (see my original message above about that which didn’t even warrant a reply from you).

I used to run the Suffolk Branch of the Capri Club International very successfully back in the 80’s and 90’s and i remembered each and every member by taking the time to acknowledge and speak to them. So please don’t talk about ‘apathy’ we’ve even got a Mk1 that’s Tracey’s now so that’s two less cars that you will be seeing. Must do better BriSal. It’s no skin off my nose, enjoy your MX5 and good luck but we’re doing more by ourselves (such as home servicing, car shows etc.)
