Bent driveshaft ... Help !

Hi, I have a bent driveshaft (nearside) on my 1.6 mk2.5, anyone have one of these or can you point me

in the right direction, also is there anything tricky in replacing these?

Thanks

David.

Blimey…how did that happen?! You’ll need a driveshaft puller to separate it at the diff end. And be prepared to struggle getting the hub apart…

Personally, I do a lot of work myself, but I’d pay someone every time for this job - a workshop full of a variety of heavy tools is pretty much essential.

Hi, thanks for the reply, the short answer is ---- I bought it like this, so I have no idea how it happened.

I had a wobble on the back end as it drove and I put it down to a bad tyre or buckled wheel, as it happens

the wheel was buckled along with the other rear wheel, so I had all 4 fully refurbed, straightened etc and

still the wobble carried on, I run it with the wheels in the air and the hubs and wheels are spot on,

when I checked the driveshafts (or halfshafts if you like) I noticed the nearside one was not ‘true’,

I’ve found a few locally for around £50.00 but wondered if I needed any special tools, I too do my own repairs

and am a little fortunate as I work in the forklift industry and have acces to a ramp and some very heavy

tooling, but as you know it’s always best to ask around a bit first just to get the ‘heads up’.

If you do have any pointers they would be welcomed.

Regards, David.

I can’t help on the 2.5 I’m afraid, but someone will be along.

Edit: by the way, it sounds to me that the car’s had a pretty decent clout if it’s all related (buckled wheel and driveshaft), maybe someone hit a kerb sideways or something…well worth making sure that corner is all straight underneath. A 4 wheel tracking check is free in a lot of places, and would show if anything is badly amiss. Worth checking if you have any warranty left.

Plenty of shafts on the shelf and ready to go, they’re listed here on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120907489367&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT#ht_741wt_1270

They’re not too bad to change, should just pull out of the diff. But as said can be a right pain to get out of the hub.

Cheers for the link and advice. I think mine has an ABS ring on it, do you have any of these?

Thanks,

David

Yeh I think 99% of the shafts we have are ABS shafts, the picture in the listing is a library photo. If you do purchase just leave a little note at checkout saying you need an ABS shaft.
