Bespoke MX-5 parts made here + OC Discount

Hi all,

After the best part of a decade designing and manufacturing parts for the pharmaceutical industry, I’ve decided to branch out into something a bit closer to my heart - cars!

I’ve created a small site - www.formotiv.co.uk to sell a few bits that I’ve made and also offer custom parts should you have any ideas that you’d like made a reality! All my designs are hand finished with real colour matched paints and decals.

This is truly a fledgling business and I am honestly looking for your feedback as I start up. I’ve made a discount code which is applicable to all services and items just for the owners club members - sadly it’s not a huge discount as I’m new to all this, but I hope to increase it as I get a bit more stability in the business!

Some examples of my work:

Enkei RPF-1 style air vent

Fully customisable + colour matchable wiper caps

Door bushings with colour matched Roadster logo

BBS RM style vent (dusty dash not included  )

AEM Wideband flush gauge mount

Thanks in advance for your interest - any questions or suggestions are most welcome.

Kind regards,

Luke

Looks very good, best of luck with it!

Now to design myself a TMW logo to put on those wiper caps!

More than happy to make it for you if you like!

Hi mate, I’m currently designing a gauge pod for an innovate motorsports gauge for my nc. are you printing your stuff or cnc machining? what manufacturing capabilities do you have?

EDIT: just been on your website, will message you mate

cheers
George

Great stuff Luke. Your designs are imaginative and original. I wish you the best of luck with your business.
Cheers,
Guy

Thank you for the words of encouragement, starting a new business is a big step - really appreciate the support

Not much on the store yet but there’s a few projects (velocity stacks, cold air intake) in the works and some custom designs coming. If there’s anything you’d like new or unique to you then just ask!

Many thanks

Some beautifully made parts there. I’ve had a look at the website and am very impressed with the technologies involved.

:grinning:

Some nice bits there Luke.
Perhaps a man of your capability could come up with a replacement BBS wheel centre?

Hi rhino,

I think I know what you mean - with the lug nuts cover and all - I’m sure I could design this - especially as I’ve already got most of the BBS wheel design, though I’ve seen very cheap injection moulded Chinese ones that are probably much cheaper than I could custom design and make one. I would still come well under the OEM price if that isn’t what you’re looking for!

If you’re looking for something more like a custom centre cap - I’ve done it for my own car, they’ll be on the store soon. Of course, custom colours and designs shouldn’t be a problem either.

Love the old Mazda ‘m’ logo. Goes well on centre caps. One off custom designs like this could turn into production runs when the word gets out!

Thanks John, sorry I don’t currently have much for NC owners - this is entirely because I don’t know anyone that has one I can make sure things work with!

If you are interested (or anyone else) is interested in an item for the NC and you don’t mind a little measuring and prototyping I’d be happy to work with you.

where about are you mate? if you not far from me this could probably work out quite well.

Hi Luke,

Off the top of my head a replacement for the centre console twin cup holders into just a tray would be good. It screws in to the main console from underneath. Mx5parts do sell one for £80 with a 12v connector but that isn’t necessary for me. So if you think you could come in under that I think it would potentially be a good seller.

If you want I can take some photos and do some measurements, would need to take it apart though.

Found these on the web, so it would replace the cupholder part with an oblong tray.

I’m on the Kent/Essex boarder - Dartford crossing way

Hi John

It’s quite a complex piece but I think I could make an alternative, perhaps with a folding cupholder or similar 12v slot or whatever is required since each one will be made specifically for you. I’ve just bought a used MK3 centre console so I can take as many measurements as I can without disassembling your cars  I’m sure it will come in useful for other projects too.

What year centre console is the one in the images above? I know it changed a bit for the facelift.

The reason the IL motorsport piece is so expensive is because it has a new sliding door and runner panel to give an extra 2.5cm of space. If I were to design and make all that, I doubt I could do it cheaper. Using the original door and being a little smaller probably halves the price.

I can’t promise any results yet but I can promise I’ll be working on it for you (and anyone else that has an interest in NC centre console related things).

Thanks!

Luke

Thanks Luke,

Pre facelift console.

I am only in Hoo St. Werburgh nr Rochester if you need to measure anything up on a 2007 nc.

Yes, I imagine injection moulding, which I assume was the original manufacture process, is the way forward. Not aware of Chinese copies available; will check out Aliexpress et al later:-)
A quality, cheap replacement would be good to…

  1. make you money
  2. deter theft of originals
  3. take the price distortion out of the market a little.

I do not own an MX5 with BBS wheels but a common enough problem with those that do.
Theft aside, these have a habit of dropping off whilst driving too, I understand.
