I appreciate there have been posts on this in the past, but it seems the posts are a good few years old now. There’s a relatively limited choice in ‘sporty’ 14" tyres it appears and I’m not sure whether there have been any significant new entrants to the market in recent years, but I’d really value some feedback on which tyres work well on the MK1 with 14 inch wheels.
Options I’ve seen suggested elsewhere include Uniroyal Rainexpert 3s, Dunlop Sport Bluresponse and Vredestein Sportrac 5s. Any others I should consider? Performance is more important than price and I’m not doing big mileages, so wear and economy aren’t big drivers. I want something that instills confidence in the wet and dry - I don’t tend to just take the car for a spin when the weather’s bad, but I do drive all through the year, so getting caught in the rain is inevitable at times.
I’ve currently got BF Goodrich tyres on. I’m not sure how grippy they were to start with, but they’re getting old and hard now, so I want to replace all 4.
I’m also running Dunlop Bluresponse after reading good things about them, really happy with them so far.
Not too noisy and grip is good in wet or dry.
Had Falken ZE 912 which were fine as well before the Dunlops.
It all depends on what you’re using them for, all the miles I do are on road so if you want to do trackdays those tyres may not be the best for that application.
Thanks for the replies. F1 have just reduced the price of the Dunlops to £47.80 a corner and I can’t find the ZE912s, so I think it’s looking like I’ll go with the Dunlops.
