Best Car Seat Cushion for Buttock Pain – Need MX‑5 Owner Recommendations

I have been researching the best car seat cushion for buttock pain as I wanted something more comfortable and supportive for long drives, especially after my doctor advised me to reduce pressure on my lower back and hips. I’ve been experiencing discomfort and numbness while driving, particularly on longer trips in my MX-5.

I went through reviews from trusted sources like Amazon customer reviews, Healthline, and ergonomic product guides, and after comparing many options these two kept coming up as the top choices:

However, I am having trouble deciding which one would be better for me and I would love to get your expert advice, and hoping maybe some drivers or MX-5 owners who deal with seat comfort on longer drives can also share their experience.

I usually drive for moderate to long distances and need something comfortable, supportive, and not too bulky so it fits well in the MX-5’s seat. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

I have a Memaflex seat pad that was meant just for touring but I’ve ended up leaving it in the car full time and because of the slight height increase have the seat lower and further back which gives better legroom too,
bought some black cushion covers cheap off ebay so it doesn’t look too odd. I broke my hip on the right and my foot on the left a few years ago. Can easily do a five hour stint in the car and not walk like John Wayne afterwards.

Memaflex and Permaflex are expensive but the advantage for me of the square pad is it can be turned around or over every time I stop or just moved a bit as I drive to always feel comfortable.

I have had some success with these inflatable cushions.

They are very light weight and cheap (off ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/167653425122 ) and very effective for any length journey. The key is to not put too much air in them and when you sit down they mould themselves to your shape and provide support. I bought one to try it out and then bought a second for the passenger seat. At £21 it is cheap enough to test one out even if it doesn’t work for you.

Avoid the large cell “gel” cushions, I’ve never sat on anything so excruciatingly uncomfortable.

I was given this Bilbear one to try, but soon binned it after slating it with a 1* review. Notice how 1* reviews are pushed to the back of the list.

I simply don’t believe any of the 5* reviews! They must be fakes.
