Not sure, I assume so but blink sorted it.
Continuing the now a little aged posts about manifolds and MOT’s …
I had been having problems with my O2 sensor occasionally lighting up the CEL… Cleared it, but it would come on again in a few weeks.
The car was fitted with a BBR 4-1 manifold (non cat) and catted IL Motorsports catted mid pipe with O2 sensor before that cat and downstream sensor removed and mapped out
Went in for MOT and fate had it that CEL came on so tester took a look and failed it for also not having the manifold cat. It’s now in the mor history so couldn’t just replace the O2 sensor and go to another tester…
So… Just finished fitting the BBR Catted manifold. Doesn’t look much different installed (from the top) but at least I won’t have those problems again.
Did you notice any performance difference?
I noticed it on my old car but that may of been due to the mapping.
Would you sell the old manifold
It’s expensive / a pain ITA to fit/ doesn’t produce much extra without an expensive map and yet we are all over it. I wonder if you can do much without dropping a grand on this magical item?
Are you joking? It makes a massive difference for a na car
Evidence please. Your selling one currently?
From having tuned ncs that drive far better than stock. Especially torque. All you need to do is go on BBR website or performancelink to see the dyno readouts
The current website doesn’t include dyno figures for the catted manifold. They just say you don’t lose much performance over the uncatted version. As you would, especially as it’s now the only version that gets through the MOT. No evidence, just trust us.
The Uncatted version does have dyno figures that compare it with ‘third party’ item. What that is supposed to prove I’m not quite sure. If you’re selling an upgrade it seems sensible to compare it to what’s on most people’s cars? That’s probably the standard car.
Not having a pop just noting the grief of home installations that typically take days and usually need a second person at times. The catted version is closer to £900 than £800 and the installation costs should be agreed beforehand😀 And you don’t actually know the extra performance you will get as far as I can work out.
I’d love one so prove me wrong.
The power graph on BBR site shows both manifolds on the same chart for the 180/185
And also for the 200
That’s including their camshaft, not the manifold alone?
The 180/185 package does not have the cams
I read an article some time back (can’t remember where now) which independently tested after market performance manifolds and found that the difference in finish of the internals, even on the most expensive products, made a massive difference. It was no use being polished and shiny on the outside.
My research and advice from specialists at the time proved that the IL Motorsport and the Racing Beat ones were the best performance wise and indeed finish.
I have the ILMS one as fitted by Skuzzle at the time.
I believe Rodders still uses the RB one for those reasons.
From my experience, the performance gains were well worth it.
Fast road package, intake, full remap.
I completely agree with this info regarding manifold internals being the important bit, as it were.
I was lucky enough to have 3 well known mani brands side by side to inspect when choosing mine. IMHO the ILMS won hands down on; component quality, properly welded- ie back purging etc.but it is expensive.
I believe decent air intake will contribute but Still undecided on VFM of some of the air intakes.
